Unity Affiliate Program for asset publishers
What is an affiliate?
Affiliate is a term used to describe any person or company that earns a commission by referring visitors to an advertiser.
What is the Unity Affiliate Program?
The Unity Affiliate Program allows you to earn commissions from the sale of products on the Unity Asset Store, as well as select subscription products in the Unity Store. This means more earnings for you.
Why should you utilize the program?
The Unity Affiliate Program is a great way for Asset Store creators, developers, and website owners to monetize their sites and content. As a Unity Affiliate, you will be able to link to any of the tens of thousands of free and affordably priced assets available in the Asset Store, or Pro and Plus subscriptions on the Unity Store.
How to join
Visit the Unity Affiliate Program page to apply today.
First, you’ll need a working website or social media account. Your site should be live and publicly accessible, since we need to view it to approve you. Your site should be relevant to Unity, but should not have the Unity brand name in the URL. Also, your site should be friendly and welcoming and contain no adult or other objectionable content
The Affiliate application is hosted by our platform provider, Partnerize. Once you apply and are approved, you’ll need to complete your account setup in Partnerize. This includes banking details, email info, website information, and the currency you would like to be paid in. This step is crucial, so make sure you complete it.
My application was approved. What’s next?
First, you’ll need to know how to place a link on your website or social media. If you would like a hand to make sure your link is correct, we’re happy to help.
Second, double check that your banking details in your Partnerize account are correct. You will receive your commissions monthly via direct deposit.
Finally, we’ll need to be able to reach you via email to let you know about upcoming promotions, general program announcements, and helpful tips and tricks to boost your earnings. Please ensure you have a working email address. You’ll also need to whitelist us at affiliates@unity3d.com.
Affiliate links
The Unity Affiliate Program offers three different kinds of links for you to use: Text links, banner links, and Linkmaker links.
Your Affiliate ID, also called an AID or camref by Partnerize, should be present in every link you share. Your Affiliate ID is labeled as “camref” in the dashboard and can be located under Campaign Tracking.
Example: http://prf.hn/click/camref:XXXXXX where XXXXXX is your unique camref
When a visitor clicks on one of your affiliate links, the tracking window tracks their activity. The tracking window will track purchase activity for 7 days for products in the Asset Store, and purchase activity for 30 days for products in the Unity Store.
We currently pay commissions at the following rates:
- Unity Asset Store: 5%
- Unity Plus: $17.50 per subscription
- Unity Pro: $200.00 per subscription
Sometimes we run special campaigns where you can earn more than the base rates. These campaigns will be announced via our affiliate newsletter sent to you from affiliates@unity3d.com.
Best practices
Here’s what we’ve seen to work for our top affiliate partners.
Please make sure you are adhering to industry rules
The FTC has specific disclosure guidelines for all site owners that you must follow when you promote and endorse other companies, especially when using affiliate links. These guidelines are available online at their website, FTC.gov.
Affiliates who plan on using email marketing must adhere to all applicable laws and best practices, including CAN-SPAM and CASL.
Cross promoting increases your commissions
Are there other assets that work well with yours? Promoting complementary assets can not only help users in their hunt for assets, it can boost your earnings.
Educational content wins
Affiliates who create content that teach users how and when an asset can be used are the most successful. Many of our top earners create tutorial videos on YouTube, stream on Twitch, leverage Patreon, write blog articles, and are active on social media. Affiliate links can go in any of these places.
Search engine marketing
- Affiliates who plan to use pay-per-click search engine marketing as part of your promotional plans should contact us for guidelines.
- Ensure your website is optimized for SEO to increase your rank in search engines.
- Affiliates may bid on their own trademark terms, as long as they do not include any protected Unity Trademark terms.
- Affiliates may bid on any of our recommended keywords.
- Affiliates may direct link from their own sites and social media accounts.
Prohibited behavior
Affiliate links on Unity properties are not allowed. This includes publisher and asset pages on the Asset Store. Affiliate links must be placed on third-party websites or sales won’t track.
Affiliates may not bid on any Unity Trademark terms, permutations, plurals, variations, or misspellings thereof.
Affiliates may not use any Unity URL as the display URL of search marketing campaigns. This includes Unity.com, Unity3d.com, assetstore.unity.com, or any derivation or typo of Unity URLs.
Affiliates may not direct link to any Unity URL from paid search campaigns using an affiliate link.
Affiliates may not claim to be Unity at any time, using the term “official site” in any ads, or otherwise presenting a search campaign as being from an official site.
