A new dimension. The next step.

boombabyon version 3.9.49
This is nothing else but a complete re-write and overhaul of Unity´s aged and cumbersome terrain system. It enables you to create stuff that you usually only see in AAA high end games. And it´s FREE. This brings Unity onto a whole new level. I have no idea why they didn´t purchase the rights and made it a default for the program. You feel like you are working with a different software. Unbelievable work. You NEED this.

Must-have for good performance
BigWayIDon previous version 3.9.47
I struggled for a long time to optimize the scene on PS4 and Nintendo Switch and get stable FPS. I kept removing everything until only the Unity terrain was left - and the performance was still far from good. Eventually, ChatGPT suggested trying MicroSplat, and it turned out to be a lifesaver. The terrain no longer dropped FPS and even became much more beautiful. Highly recommended!

Works great, has ton of features, even if additionally paid you still get a very good deal for what it does. Great UX, streamlined and performant.

Great plugin, but there are also issues

The overall effect was very good, and I quickly achieved the effect I wanted to achieve. But after using this plugin in my HDRP file, there was an issue of a black screen on the VR screen during program execution. I have guaranteed that my render mode is multi pass, but there is still an issue that cannot be resolved. I don't know what the reason is

Waste of time

This shader has 2x worse performance than Unity's terrain lit shader for mobile devices! Didn't know it was possible to make something so bad given Unity shader is already quite inefficient for mobile platforms. Stay away from this asset, it will save you lot's of time.

Clearly someone didn't read the optimization guide, which covers mobile performance, as the shader has many optimization features available.

Terrible support, better use it if you are just starting your project

almar-suarezon previous version 3.9.39
The package contains a lot of features which are somehow documented (some parts better than others). While difficult, it is possible to modify the source in case you need to develop features by yourself. However, be prepared that your terrains will not look the same as standard unity, no matter how hard you try. The performance claims couldn't be confirmed (at least in my project). I started using it very late in the development cycle of my game, only because I wanted to use a paid package to extend the functionality (terrain blending). When I failed to use the extra package (it didn't work as advertised and support didn't provide any valuable help), I found myself having to remove MicroSplat from the project, risking a non trivial uninstall process. Decided to keep it because while the process is in theory non-destructive, you will have to manually reconfigure things which in theory should work, but in practice sometimes don't. Unity is to blame more than the developer in this case, but still brings unnecessary risk. Do not implement unless you are willing to discard the terrain or spend a long time fixing it after deleting the package. If you still want to use this package, I recommend doing it right at the beginning of your project, and be prepared to use it at your own risk - support on discord is awful at best (you will be reminded constantly that a free package doesn't deserve the developers time or attention; sometimes people are called worse things for missing a half written line in a document that isn't as clear as it should). And if you cannot fix your issues on your own (or be lucky enough that someone else wants to help you), be ready to either use something else, work on it, or as in my case - keep it in the project "as is". Considering it's free, I suggest you testing it rigorously to see you can gain something from it. Otherwise - skip entirely. It seems amazing and full of features, but probably you won't benefit from them anyways.

MicroSplat does not edit any data on your terrain, so if you managed to mess up your terrain data, it wasn't MicroSplat that did it. Uninstalling is a matter of removing the packages and re-assigning the original material/shader that was on your terrain, that's not complex. So how much time do you think I should provide from my already busy schedule for people that paid absolutely nothing to use the package? I take it you'll be giving away your game for free and spending hours a day answering questions for no pay? No one owes you anything.
