Okay - maybe a bit over priced for what it is.

slippyfrogon version 6.8.2
Edit - terrain grid 2 from Kronnect essentially deprecates this. TGS2 is rewrite/evolution of this asset and is inline with the robust feature sets and code quality of other 5star kronnect assets. TGS2 supports non terrain based grids, is much better written, and more optimized than this asset. I’m also assuming that this asset is in LTS and new features are added to the TGS2 fork. If you purchased grid2d, you just need to pay the difference to upgrades to TGS2. It’s well worth it the upgrade price.
Original review of Grisd2D.
Used it for a 2 days so far. Maybe a bit dated but works well out of the box. Saved about 2 days for development to create a robust grid rendering solution. Here are some thoughts:
Rendering controls/configuration are a bit underwelhming. Need more fidelity of controls to adjust and tweak how the grid/cells/borders/territory outlines look.
Works out of the box for URP.
Need to port to new Input System (which was like 3 minutes to do as all input code is isolated).
Need to see if the pathfinding generates any foot print as there seems to be no option to disable it. I dont want to use the asset for pathfinding so not sure how to disable it (if it reduces initialization or heap footprint etc)
Was easy to add support for ASMDef (for Demo and for Runtime libs) but would have been a nice quality of life to support this out of the box.
Need a more pluggable way to generate Territories.
Also many variables not documented so you have to use a GenAI or read the code to see what they are used for.

Hi,
Thanks for your review and glad to know you could customize it to your needs. We have made significant effort in creating a robust 2D grid generation system with also a strong API for C# devs.
Regarding the path finding question, it shouldn't cause any overhead if not used.
Please don't hesitate to contact as at https://kronnect.com/support for any question you have.
p.s. you may also want to check Terrain Grid System 2 for additional border options and generation features, as it also can generate 2D grids. There's an upgrade discount for Grids 2D users: https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/tools/terrain/terrain-grid-system-2-244921
Regards,
Kronnect
The grid and its pathfinding work well enough. Worst case scenario minor fixes could be applied to the grid's logic to make it work for your specific case.
But after intensively working with this asset for four months I understand very well how incredibly lacking the documentation is.
Literally dozens of features don't have any tooltips and are not mentioned in the docs whatsoever, leaving you to guess what are they supposed to do. Hardly a proper way to provide documentation for a paid asset.
My favorite case is how the doc calls Grid Appearance settings "self-explanatory" and explains only 2 features out of a dozen. Meanwhile settings have a field for texture called "Canvas Texture" which changes absolutely nothing in the grid appearance when assigned, and is not mentioned anywhere. How to use it? Good luck figuring it out on your own!
This is just one example out of MANY when you have to spend your time to research how the grid works instead of the author spending 10 minutes to explain it properly in the doc once and for all.
One may argue we can just ask the developer about these features. But my post on the so called support forum was casually ignored for almost 2 weeks (and still is), so it's not exactly the case.

Hi,
Thanks for your feedback. I've updated the documentation with additional details. Each key feature is backed by a demo scene.
Regarding your support request, I’ve checked the posts on our support forum and couldn’t find your questions: https://kronnect.com/support/index.php/board,19.0.html
Could you please contact us by email to contact@kronnect.com or post it again on the link above?
Thank you very much!

I've been burned by the Unity Asset store before, so I'm always a little skeptical buying something new. But the features of this asset were just what I was looking for, and it was highly rated, so I figured I would give it a chance.
I'm glad that I did, Kronnect not only made an extremely functional and versatile tool, but one with intuitive and extensible controls.
I thought I had run into a bug at one point, and decided to send an email to their support team. They responded in 20 minutes, and politely pointed out that the error was in my OWN code *facepalm*
I couldn't be happier with this team or with this tool.

I am newbie to using Unity3D and I needed to create a grid with a given number of cells in the project, which I was successfully helped by this asset.
Separately, I would like to thank the creator of this asset, because he really helped me after I e-mailed him. He really responds to requests for the addition of his asset!

Very useful tool - helped me to set up a grid for my game very quickly. Also has lots of useful features, such as unit movement across tiles and best path - stuff that would have taken me ages to try and program.
The documentation is clear and easy to follow.
The developer is very helpful and gets back to you quickly - I was very impressed with the help I was given.
In summary, this asset has saved me a lot of time, and has even given me ideas for new features in my game.

Thanks for your review!
Grids 2D has plenty of options for an asset at this price point, clear documentation, and exceptional support on the official forums. It has occasionally had some issues, such as a memory problem, but they have been quickly fixed upon being brought to the attention of the developers.

Thanks so much for your review! Much appreciated!
When I bought this, it was missing a couple key pieces of support I needed, though it had tons of other feature-sugar I was excited for.
I brought up my needs to the developer, and my features were quickly added to the beta schedule. When the new beta released about a week later, the dev reached out to me directly with a video showcasing the new features.
Incredibly quick response time, solid asset, and the dev kept their cool in the face of my complaining.
Can't recommend this developer's work enough.
