Render pipeline compatibility
The Built-in Render Pipeline is Unity’s default render pipeline. It is a general-purpose render pipeline that has limited options for customization. The Universal Render Pipeline (URP) is a Scriptable Render Pipeline that is quick and easy to customize, and lets you create optimized graphics across a wide range of platforms. The High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP) is a Scriptable Render Pipeline that lets you create cutting-edge, high-fidelity graphics on high-end platforms.

UI Toolkit Sample – Dragon Crashers was developed by Unity to showcase some of the workflows included in the e-book 2D game art, animation, and lighting for artists. 


This 2D sample project, made by Unity, is a vertical slice of a side scrolling Idle RPG game that showcases how the suite of 2D tools can be combined with artwork to make your vision a reality. All of the content in this demo can be added into your own creative projects.


To play the demo, select “Dragon Crashers” from the top bar, followed by “Load Game Menu.” This demo is currently made in Unity 2020.2/2020 LTS and uses the 2D Renderer/Universal Render Pipeline (URP).


By exploring this demo, you can discover how to harness 2D Sprite Shape, 2D Tilemap Editor, and the Sprite Editor to recreate dynamic environments and props.


Unity 2D Animation offers smooth skeletal animation and IK to create characters with Sprite Libraries and enable easy sprite swapping, while reusing rigs and animation. The Particle System serves to apply SFX or special attacks, whereas Timeline facilitates cutscenes and transitions.


The new 2D graphics technology, 2D Renderer, included in the Universal RP, makes all the components of the demo shine. The sprites in this demo have Secondary Textures that interact with 2D lights to make them appear more realistic and reflect the environment. The 2D shaders, made with Shader Graph, incorporate effects like lava and smoke, without tasking the CPU. The demo also implements Post-processing to add another layer of polish.


This demo has been tested on popular desktops and across common iOS and Android devices.
