** I am still awaiting a response from the asset's developer; if he is able to resolve my issues, I will update my review. Below is my initial review of the asset.
The Good: When it works, this is a nice effect, done well and convincingly, if (and only if) you're willing to utilize the exact character structure and scene setups laid out by the developer in the demos.
The Bad: Most devs are looking to set up a portal system like this *on top* of an already existing character structure. We cannot usually drastically alter the way our player characters are set up, as they are very interwoven objects. While I understand that this makes something like a portal system hard to create, it's, in my opinion, the asset devs job to account for at least most of the commonly used structures.
In this asset and most others like it on the asset store, the portal effect completely breaks if your player is not set up exactly the way it expects. I purchased Damian's because it mentions in its description and documentation that it is built to be flexible, but I have not found that to be the case. The online documentation is still missing sections and despite days of attempts, I simply cannot get the effect to work consistently.
For that reason, I would recommend this asset only if your project is in the very early stages of production and you are still designing your player.

Regret buying this asset

Bought this assets cause I didn't want to make a portal system and it seemed like a good cheap asset that I hoped would work in VR. But it did not work in VR and when I tried to contact the developer I got no response. I request a refund but it didn't get accepted for obvious reasons, so I made my own system and wasted $25 on an asset I will never use. So if you want to use this for VR don't just make you own tbh.

Functionality is limited to a very basic player controller. As soon as the player camera is not a child of the player, it doesn't really work. The included player controller is so basic that it's not really usable for any real-world implementations. I tried contacting the developer through the provided WhatsApp and email, but both attempts went unanswered. Meanwhile, the 'full' version of this asset was released (which is linked to the old one, so the reviews show up on it too), which still has all the same problems, by the way.

The asset works well with BIRP, but there are graphical problems with HDRP.
For testing, I created a new project in Unity 2022 with HDRP and then added the asset and made the "update" as described in the description.

Unfortunately, i have not received any feedback from the developer as to whether the problem can be solved. I would like to give the asset more stars because there is obviously a lot of work involved.
Maybe it also helps if the asset already has an HDRP example scene without these graphical problems?

I love this assest but i wish there was a feature where if you scale one portal in a portal system to be bigger or smaller it would also scale the character. IT would work great in a game in currently working on. Otherwise amazing asset, a worth it purchase even just to play around with. Great work!

I am very happy with this Portal System, it works great and is very stable! The support was amazing. There where problems due to my lack of knowledge on some elements. Damian was very kind and helped a lot, He observed my project and tried hard to improve his portal system and study more use-case scenarios.
This open mind inspired me. For this low price i got so much more. This is not a easy thing to build, i admire the ambition and study behind this asset a lot.
Damian thanks for your amazing asset, i hope the development of your upcoming videogame "Pippa's Journey" goes well, and that we find a portal in there as well :)

was liking the asset but like many other assets on the asset store. they decided to make this version a basic version after i bought it and now will have a full version that will have all the features. ( which was never mentioned before). i chose this asset because i assumed any new features would be added to this not another whole asset i have to purchase. i do understand there is suppose to be a discount. but my plan when i purchased the asset was to not have to spend more onto it. if this was stated that there will be another version later on that has more features at the start than that would be different. but to change that later on?
response to creator. my problem wasn't with the quality of the asset. but what i see as the loyalty. i understand the wanting to have a basic and full version but you didnt have that before. if you wanted to add 2 versions you should have upgraded the current to full then have a lite version for anyone who didnt have it and didnt want the full. selling an asset when there wasnt a higher version then switching it up and saying you own the lower version now so spend more money and get all these new features. im sorry this doesnt sound like screwing over your fanbase to you. you know the ones that supported you before you added the new features

Hi, tredpro. Thank you for buying the asset and taking your time to review it. I understand what you're saying, but I think there are things to clarify: You bought the version 1.3, which was released more than 3 years ago. During this time I put a lot (A LOT, really) of effort and dedication to do something way better, which is version 1.4 and you are getting now for free. The price is actually higher (18 to 24) but you get it as a free upgrade. And (let me clarify this again), 1.4 has A LOT more and is much better than you originally had. So, THIS is the floor I set, THIS is the basic version, the new improved ground from which I built the full version, which is a sepparate branch. Please check the documentation, https://www.damian-gonzalez.com/portals and you'll see 1) how much basic (1.4) has improved from 1.3, and 2) how many extra things full version (2.0) has from the basic. Full version is a separate tier that offer OTHER features that were never in the scope of the basic one, it makes all the sense that it's another different asset, at a different price. Apart from that, let me add that when the full version is published (within this month) it will have a 40% launch discount and you'll be able to get it (if you want) paying only the difference... and it's the difference from THIS basic version, not the previous one.
To close, my point is (and I'm saying this politely altough it may sound harsh) if you don't want the full version you can ignore it, treat it as another different asset that branched from this one, treat this basic version as a free big improvement, which, by the way, I will continue to mantain and improve. Thank you again.
