Render pipeline compatibility
The Built-in Render Pipeline is Unity’s default render pipeline. It is a general-purpose render pipeline that has limited options for customization. Description

Gimme Cloud Shadows has everything you need to create stunning atmospheres in your game that will make it visually stand out compared to others.


Just import the package drag-and-drop some prefabs and you're ready to go. But of course, there are enough sliders and values to your hearts desire to improve the appearance and style just to your taste.


In addition, all the shadows can be animated using the provided noise-texture generator combined with domain-warping. And then they can be layered, stacked and combined further to create truly amazing effects! All cloud shadows you see in the videos were created using it.


Also includes sun shafts / god rays, that are animated in the same way as your shadows!

The sky is the limit.

Technical details

Supports all Render Pipelines from 2020.3+ onwards.

BRP + URP + HDRP


Provides three different solutions to integrating cloud shadows into your game:

  • Using an image-effect shader / fullscreen pass
  • Using the Unity shadow map / a shadowcaster (with dithering)
  • A material-based approach using global textures

The shadows themselves are highly customizable and, depending on what you use, you can even use them additively (they are not shadows then anymore though ^^^)


Also includes a powerful procedural texture generator based on noise maps that can be animated using domain warping (it is quite fun)


Then there are sun shafts, a post-process effect, that is quite cheap performance-wise, as the shadows are already supplied.


Also contains additional tools for making it easier to work with the textures, shaders and materials, including a way to make seamless 3D Textures (via compute shader)


Dependencies:

  • Editor Coroutines 1.0.0 or above
  • For the column / ruins sample scene to work (correctly), Post Process 3.2.2 is required
