After testing a lot (and I mean A LOT) of solutions, here I have finally found the one that unites these features:
- Works flawlessly in built in render pipeline and looks fantastic
- can be painted
- reacts to lights (and point lights!) without strange artefacts, reacts perfectly to shadows from other objects
- disappears in environment fog as it should (pretty much all other systems don´t care about fog and will be clearly seen from miles away!)
- has excellent wind settings
- is interactive and the interactor leaves a (customizable) trample path
- can be color-customized to whatever look you prefer
- is highly performant (->normal game scene of a wide meadow landscape full of grass and with fine adjusted settings adds only 20 draw calls(!!) to the scene)
Before you try any other grass shader, buy this one first. You will very likely not need any other.
Congrats to the dev for making such a powerful asset!

It doesn't work on URP. All materials are broken (as they were made for another pipeline) and it can't be converted to URP.

Hi, I'm sorry for the confusion. The grass shader supports URP, but it can't be converted using Unity's material conversation tool.
Select the grass materials you want to convert, then change the shader to "Stix Games > Grass Urp".

superb grass shader :)
Much grass, performant, much configurability, nice look, good options. Good documentation.
Although I started with v1, and v2 initially didn't bring the density v1 brought for me, I feel this asset is still worthy of 5 stars and thus I finally communicate this!

I've already tested a lot of grass shaders in the store and always noticed some disadvantages of which I wouldn't use the asset in my projects but that one just worked.
It's pretty easy to set up, the creator has some YouTube totorials for it and everything worked like it should.

Just get rid of grass brushing and make the density more controllable! With this procedural grass asset, you can create fake Shadow/AO for your own grass by using ground color, making some color variation for your grass by your own base color map, remapping grass normal to the ground object normal, shutting off the grass realtime shadow by one click. All of these functions are Stylized Artist Friendly, and all of these grass were generated on GPU!
Also, you need to spend some time to know well this shader's parameters, which is very important for your final performance. You have to find a balance point between the density and your art requirement, some little floats differences will make a giant cost of your performance. Don't worry, just follow the documentation and try it times and times, you will get familiar with it.

Asset itself is easy to use and really customizable. We would happily use it if it didn't have such a huge performance impact. With it's current state it is not fit for a game, may fit just for a very small demo scene.
Even with the minimum settings it is unusable.
On URP / Unity 2019.3, with GTX 1080ti and with optimized but decent grass we take 30fps at maximum.
We contacted the developer and tried everything which didn't work. The final answer is: "You have a hardware problem" instead of actually testing it themselves by opening up a very simple URP scene and adding just a small bunch of grass.
Note that we also tried on other systems having GTX 1070 and GTX 2070. The result is the same. The FPS drops from 180 to 30 on 1070. On 2070, performance impact is even worse.

Hello,
This shader uses Tessellation and Geometry shaders which can rarely cause performance problems on certain hardware, a GTX 1080Ti is definitely not one of them. If you had chosen to communicate with me, I would have told you that.
Even in small scenes wrong material settings can cause problems, which is why I've created a guide for performance optimization (https://stixgames.com/grassshader/documentation/performance-optimization). I'm sure you would be able to work on very large scenes with that GPU (and most less powerful ones).
In case anybody else has problems with the shader, please write in the Discord, Forums, or send me an E-mail. I try to help with any problem I can and in cases that couldn't be resolved (including performance), I have always been willing to give refunds.

I adopted Stix grass shader one year and half ago and it still impress me for how polished and well maintained the asset is. I am using it in VR and I have never experienced any problem with it. Just get it!
