Amazing Tool
abnegateon version 1.0.7.2
Great tool for complex AI workflows that are extremely customizable, anything is possible. Requires quite a bit of plumbing code so might not be best for those looking for an easy/simple system. No issues in Uinty 2019.4.18

Great product! - but only for people who know what they are doing

apesoupon version 1.0.7.2
This is very helpful if you need to make an AI that needs to weigh in a lot of factors and then select the action that currently has the greatest utility. This is ideal for bots and similar AIs but may not be the best choice(most efficient way) to create more "linear" behaved agents.

Very Good AI Solution, but not compatible with lastest Unity
8 years ago
ThePilgrimon version 1.0.7.2
Update: This asset seems to no longer be compatible with versions of Unity past 2019.3.7. Original Review --------------------- This has worked great for me. It has a bit of an initial learning curve, but the documentation was decent enough for me to get over it pretty quickly. Also when I had a question, my post on their forums was answered quickly. This asset basically sets up a nice framework for you to write your own modular AI nodes, which include scorers (produce a score based on some state of the game) and actions which will be performed based on the output from the scorers. Once you have a nice library of these AI nodes written, you can plug them into an AI graph structure quite easily. When I first started, progress was slow as I had to learn and get used to the system, and also write a new node every time I wanted to do something. After working with it for a few weeks, I had a good understanding of how it worked, and built up a library of nodes to very quickly create and modify AIs to do complex behavior. In my last project, I implemented my own behavior tree AI system. This asset has already saved me a ton of time compared to using that. I highly recommend this for an AI solution in your project, and that you take the time to learn how to use it.

Everything you need to create an optimized, deep, complex ai with great ease if you know how to code. Thank you for a great asset, leaps forward from using state machines, and behaviour trees.

AAA Advanced AI

Catonovatoon previous version 1.0.7.1
This is NOT an AI system for beginners. Being familiar with Utility base AI before jumping in is a must. YOU WILL NEED TO READ THE DOCUMENTATION AND FOLLOW THE TUTORIALS. After that you have an extremely powerful tool. If you just want to play with Utility AI this may not be the best choice. However, if you are ready to move beyond throwing curves around and want a fully scriptable, and need hybrid behaviour tree/Utility AI solution like me then look no further. This is pure utility with a FANTASTIC UI for laying out and implementing your selectors and context related deliciousness in a BT like format.

Not Sure

ramsicleon previous version 1.0.5
Finally got something going with this asset, but man I felt like I just coded my own AI. I'm not sure about this asset, it works, but for me I didn't save any time when setting up AI for my game. I want to give the developer some credit cause I bought this asset realising that he was definitely on to something, but maybe it's just me but if you read this, was it always intentional that you would be writing a lot of your own code, or am I not following the tutorials correctly. Anyway 2 stars for now, maybe come back later if something changes... /***************************/ OK, thanks for the sugestion, will definitely drop you a line, just doing some family stuff right now. Added extra star, keen to make this a five star asset after all it does work but preserving for later... I'll be back...

Hi Ramsicle, The Utility AI is very flexible. As you say - this means that you can - and often do - develop your own classes, but use a the Utility AI framework to ensure everything fits nicely together, is load balanced, can be reused etc. The challenge is that AI use cases for different games are very different. We specifically chose not to force certain behavior in the AI during our development for this reason. However, we have made code available in tutorials etc. for common use cases. Shoot us an email with you specific use cases and let's see if can help you out to get a good experience with the Utility AI. Best Regards, Apex Game Tools

complexity grows out of control

SilverMalibuon previous version 1.0.5
when using this with their own Apex Path, there are eventually too many components to handle, and after a while you're just too tired to figure out which component you are supposed to use under what circumstances. I ended up spending a month on things that i could have achieved using Behaviour Designer in a week. It's a cool thing, with cool concept, but un-necessarily complex for most AI situations. The developer promised a SIMS-like demo months ago, but i figure they also get trapped into some complexity hellhole of their own plugin. ======================== I never deny the AI tool is powerful, i have no trouble to understand the tool, it's just overly complex for simple use cases, and hardly manageable for advanced use cases. There are too many components of this and that, and when they grow linearly, the potential interactions among them grow exponentially, and becomes very tiresome to maintain. All in all, the project is cool in concept, but honestly too exhausting. There are too many usability issues with the editor too, but I can't tweak them since no source code is provided, which is weird since the Utility AI is simpler than Apex Path and Apex Path somehow provides the source code

Hi Thinkium, We are sad to see that the product doesn't work for you. The Utility AI is a very powerful tool, and the tutorials - especially the short getting started tutorials - should get you up an running quickly. 1/ Did you contact our support to get help with your use cases? We have a lot of knowledge about different AI use cases that can show you the power of the Utility AI. 2/ The tool allows you to develop your own classes etc. to create an AI for your particular game, but we also have a lot of code samples for trivial tasks, including integration with Apex Path etc. With the component-based model that Unity uses, you do end up with a lot of components if you want full flexibility. You are right that in some cases you just want one or no components, but we opted to go for the Unity model. Anyway, shoot us an email, and let us help you out. Best Regards, Apex Game Tools
