Thanks to the author for creating this asset, it very much simplifies my in-game asset management. I had some technical questions to which I received prompt and detailed support answers. Thank you.

Just what I needed and more

MoonTreeInteractiveon version 3.2
The VID is an excellent asset for organizing data. Its extensible nature has allowed me to easily solve many problems I thought would require a much more involved solution. The developer is very quick to respond to questions and goes above and beyond to help people most effectively use this asset.

I hope you continue to find the VID useful!
Always lovely to hear good news about it :D
I have been tinkering with VID for a while now and it really is the best option to create items and crafting recipes, any data really. Just create custom classes with whatever attributes you need.
The developer is super friendly and helpful with any questions. This is a must have asset and worth more than the asking price.

MysterieCatGameson version 3.2
I've used this asset with multiple projects in the past, on both 2018 and 2017 LTS builds. It is my go-to asset when dealing with data management. From inventory items, spell data, board game asset data, everything, it just works and it's absolutely amazing.
It's (loosely) designed for use with RPG elements, so if you're storing other data there's a bit of cleanup you can do to the ItemBase class by removing default properties like weight and volume, but it's not required.
All in all, if you want an easy to use and editor-friendly way to store data then this the plugin for you.
The author could -easily- charge double what they're asking and it would still be worth the price.

I found error!
cherdim006on version 3.2
I just download this asset for my new game.
and Unity Console show me an error.
There is no 'VIDItemListsV31' scripts!
How can I fix it?
Can I just make same name script and copy and paste 'VIDItemListsV32' script??
----
I solve it my self 'maybe'.
I just copy whole VIDItemListsV32 and ItemDatabeseV32.
And made new scripts named VIDItemListsV31 and ItemDatabaseV31.
And then, I changed all V32 to V31 in those two scripts.
I hope it will help all future user of this asset.

Hey sorry you got this error, it has never been reported and I can't reproduce it. Downloading the latest version gives me the correct files.
You can contact me on bloeys@outlook.com and I can look into it to see if something needs to be changed for the future.

Timbecile76on version 3.2
I dig this asset. I got it originally to house things like weapons and armor and stuff for my game, but I've found that it's useful for all sorts of data. Player statistics? check! Spells? Check! Random bits of game data you want to store? Check!

Helpful asset, well documented, great support from developer

Visual Item Database does two things that are extremely helpful for my current project:
1) I autocreates enums of every item you enter into it. This allows me to then reference those items in other item classes and quickly choose the relevant item from a prefab in the Unity Editor.
2) It provides a much simpler pattern for creating a number of game elements than is natively available in Unity. I use it to define and keep track of "items", "levels", and "crafting recipes". The items just become game objects at run time, but instead of attaching the relevant scripts to each prefab as I would do with native Unity, I attach the prefab to the item in the VID and modify any other attributes on the item class instance. Because VID autocreates enums of all my items, I can add a List to item type class "A" that takes the enum for item type "B" and then when I create a new item of type "A", I can pick from a handy dropdown of all my items of type "B". This made the "crafting recipes" incredibly simple to make in bulk.
There are a couple of convenience methods I would love to see implemented in VID, like the ability to get all items from all item types in a group, or the ability to retrieve EITHER the original or a clone of an item. It would also be great if subtypes supported separate classes. The code is well documented, though, so adding custom functionality is not difficult.
Lastly, the developer has been supportive and promptly answers questions via email.

A great asset for beginners

JesseDMeyeron previous version 3
First of all, the support for this asset, is outstanding. That is really important for beginning developer.
The documentation is sufficient to get started but there will be some functionality that you will need on top of what is available out of the box. Fortunatly its easy enough to work with that this shoul not be too much of a problem for you.
I have tried the other database solutions, but this one works the best for teams that may have designers or artists without the techincal know-how, from my experiance.

Easy decision: Spend a month building your own system, or a few bucks on this.

TenderLovingon previous version 3
This asset is easy to use right out of the gate, and also easy to customize if you feel like doing some coding.
VID was perfect for what I was looking for: A way to quickly create a bunch of "information containers" that would be accessible to various systems in my game.
