"Old" asset but it works!

While many people would consider this to be an outdated asset, I don't agree with that assessment due to the fact the only other voxel based digging system I found has bugs with using it in runtime mode, so this one works out of the box rather well but is limited without adding the original MapMagic and MegaSplat into the mix.
And that is where I have encountered issues. Since the distant tile doesn't show up at all and the horizon shows correct texturing but is much darker than the terrain thus doesn't match up well enough to bother having it enabled. Also, the low quality doesn't match up with the high quality, it seems to only be using a single texture from the texture array, so I just maxed out the high detail in Modes and Ranges to 300, I would like it to go further so I might change the source code to extend the maximum ranges a bit further.
I couldn't make use of the serialization since you can not load partial serialized dataset (but you can save partial), so in order to load data it has to be a full set or it errors, so I had to develop a macro based saving and loading system which saves each edit to the server side and shares it with other clients nearby and when new players sign in or enter the area it triggers loading of the saved data by applying them using a buffered edit pool, it's kind of interesting to watch things be changed, but I increased the amount of changes being applied to batches of 10 or so per coroutine cycle.
It is a great system for advanced users who can work around a few issues!
Honestly, I still think this has plenty of potential to be modernized and wish the developer would revisit this system, but I am also glad that it is highly customizable if you know what you are doing so we can extend it ourselves!
Also, out of all the developers providing assets on the asset store, Dennis is by far the best when it comes to customer support. Most don't even ever reply let alone when they do they tend to be stuck up snobs and provide as little help as they can get away with, this hasn't been the case with Dennis in the slightest which is refreshing.
So even in 2024 I think this is still worth considering, we're using it for our virtual world project!

Not enough API documentation for scripting.

If you can adopt this asset, this can be short cut to good looking game.
you have to check whether the document and the description is enough for you. I cannot find other API documentation except the pointed doc from the asset page.
so in order to do something you want, you have to understand deeply the asset behaviour by reading the code.
fortunately there are full sources in the package, so you can understand the asset completely.
But I think that paid good asset is designed as the black box library so as to control through well arranged API and save your time. this seems not so.

Be careful about buying this asset because it looks cool. It does and the demo works but not sure how one can reasonably use the asset in an actual project. The developer was friendly and responsive but ultimately said he wouldn't provide the asset necessary to make it possible to use the non infinite version of the project (no code needed in your project) to export assets from what you create. Has anyone used this product successfully in an actual delivered project?
My first complaint of 214 assets. The Voxeland asset, $95 is not reasonably usable out of the box.
The developer didn't respond w/ disagreement to this: "The infinite version, according to reviews is not reliable at scale and the other version (via a setting in Voxeland which can output small assets) will not work without a new 3 plane texture (he won't provide one). Therefore its unusable in any reasonable sense. I'd like a refund. There should be a warning or the assets should be removed.
So, if your not willing to develop 3D planar texture assets and are not willing to put very complex code into your project that probably will not work at scale, consider carefully before wasting your money on this asset.
I've asked Unity for a refund and to warn or remove the asset.

I hate to not be able to absolutely love this asset. The results can be spectacular, as you can see in the youtube tutorials. But, I had a lot of problems with Voxeland too, many UI glitches, scaling problems in the editor, slow down (again, in the editor). These may well be Unity issues, compatibility problems caused by recent updates, I'm not sure. This is also an incredibly difficult asset to master. When you watch Dennis use it in the videos, it looks like a breeze, but that is mastery and I spent a few hundred hours trying to get there before moving on to Gaia Pro. I really wanted and needed the voxel capabilities, including runtime destruction of terrain, caves and over-hangs, and Voxeland can deliver on these. For now, I have found that Digger PRO and Gaia Pro combined get me what I need. I'll be keeping an eye on Voxeland though, since it really has so much potential.

Fails deforming the terrain and bad support

I tried to create something like a floating island and when i modified all the borders of the terrain in the scene sample in this asset once i press play the terrain just appear cutted in two and has not any of my modifications, also tried to contact creator just gave me a response which i didnt find any sense and when replied didnt answer me anymore. Anyways with 2019.3 Unity supports cut holes, so i think this will be outdated

So yeah. This is unquestionably the finest voxel terrain maker in Unity. I own both this and map maker.
The developer is incredibly talented and supports his products at a very impressive level. You can check out the forums to see what I mean.
So why the low score?
Because this tool is being developed to "catch up" to regular terrains. And it can't. It never will. I own several of the other terrain makers and they're just much much better. Much more realistic and easier to use. These terrains are second rate because they try too hard to look like regular terrains that other engines can make much better.
The trouble with voxeland is the developer is spending all his efforts trying to catch up to normal terrain makers and in the process, voxeland gets more and more complicated to use. More goes wrong. More stuff breaks. You need to master it to fugure out how to use it - which defeats much of the purpose of spending on an asset that is supposed to be doing the hard work for you. The forums are filled with posts about things not quite working. I have had this tool for over 3 years and its still a pain to use.
In the meantime, all those wonderful things that we want to do with a voxel engine don't feature here because they're not prioritised by the developer: He is so busy building a regular terrain maker that he kind of forgets why people want voxels in the first place.
There's no easy way to create mining layers, or asteroids (voxelump anyone?) or spherical worlds... all the things voxels should be great at. There's no demo for floating islands... no way to create stylized terrains. These are the things that should be the Aces in the deck for a voxel terrain generator.. but they're just not on the radar here. All you will see in the forums are the usual generic terrains that look like they were made in 2010 and that you can pretty much download for free elsewhere in the asset store if you don't mind theyre not voxel. There's nothing spectacular going on here.
I've spent nearly 200 dollars on Voxeland and Mapmagic in the hope that one day those tools would help me build a cool sci-fi voxel worldscape. They can't - and I just think that's a massive shame because they're in there somewhere.

Voxeland was the first asset I purchased when I picked up Unity but only recently got the chance to use it. I just wanted to say having a blast creating sculptures with this really cool tool. I can create an interesting terrain right out of the box with this and limited only by my own imagination. Thanks for creating it.

I really think this thing, despite errors in console, works absolutely wonderfully and has everything I need to create awesome terrains that are editable and great looking! I love that grass is a separate layer that moves with the terrain as you sculpt. I was able to generate an awesome alien terrain with objects and grass applied, even bake a NavMesh from the high-rez chunks and swap the boring unity Terrain for an incredible one in less than a day.
