Hi Vertexx, This package has the reviews that are missing from the actual package due to a glitch. This now only serves as a workaround for long time users who missed to update Path Painter between 03/2020 and 07/2021, because the other effect of the glitch turned out to be a broken update path as I learned from one of the affected users a few months ago. This was a workaround we could come up with, so the few who still only has Path Painter v1.2.0 can do a free upgrade going through this package and upgrade their 3 year old Path Painter to Path Painter II. It is confusing and will have to be removed soon, so really hope everyone who were affected have upgraded already.

Great tool for creating Paths but the end result still leaves too much work

Tymacon previous version 1.2.1
I wanted to review this product because I've used it quite a lot before I switched over to an off-planet (space) project. It is super easy to use with some nice features which provide a big increase in efficiency over the Unity default terrain editing tools. Unfortunately, it doesn't realize its full potential because no matter how I adjust the slopes, curves, heights, blend, etc.. I'm left needing to make fixes and improvements to the end result. Inevitably there are areas (transitions) with horribly uneven terrain. This is usually because you have to commit your path after moving very far or the memory buffer fills up very quickly. If you don't do this you risk not being able to undo a mistake (I'm using the latest version). This is one of the times the tool falls short because when you do this it isn't always easy to restart your path and have it come out even. The other time you get uneven paths and other undesired visuals are when your path is moving up/down terrain elevation changes (it handles straight lines fairly well but if you are curving with elevation changes you can get so very poor results). Aside from these two issues where you can end up with uneven paths and extreme jaggedness of the surrounding terrain, the path edging visual leave a lot to be desired. It is very limited in providing one texture that doesn't blend as well as I would have hoped. The end result still needs a lot of manual editing to make it look visually acceptable. Improving the blending and allowing a combination of blending textures which could be a weighted curved based on the edge height fall-off/rise would provide another huge workflow efficiency benefit. It appears as if the product isn't being supported with the only update being a performance update and not a feature update. If the developer ever does release an update, nothing else would be needed other than providing an easier way to smooth uneven terrain along path points and a few more texturing options for improving the path edging visual. I'll update my review with 1 star for each of these workflow enhancements suggestions if the developer decides to make this an AAA tool.

Yet another 5 star review!

AtomsInTheVoidon previous version 1.2.1
Truly an amazing concept with a simple yet very powerful implementation. Obviously lots of math going on behind the scenes because I don't need to do much for it to just KNOW how to slope my path up and around hills. Works really well with Vegetation Studio too if you put an Exclude Texture in your biome, suddenly Path Painter becomes a bulldozer through the woods! Looking forward to what you make next!

Extremely simple to use with amazing results and no bugs found. Good price. Doesn't get much better than this. The asset store needs to keep developers like this! Us developers need asset store developers like this!

Thank you for taking the time to review and thank you for the kind words! Do checkout the new version, Path Painter II, as well. (It's a free upgrade.) It turned out to be a much bigger effort than imagined (pretty much a complete rewrite with 102371 changes in 212 files), so we expect to have some bugs, but we hope it will be the same high quality, problem free experience for our users that they are used to by now. Once we are confident it's stable, it will replace this version, because it's intended to be better in every way, while still supporting the same Unity versions as this one (even Unity 5.6). We hope it will also be the foundation for some exciting features we have been looking forward to add. Happy New Year! We wish our users and their loved ones a great year to be remembered!

Overall Best Asset I Have Bought

KimJongmanon previous version 1.2.1
I have never left a review for an asset. I am doing so for Path Painter because it deserves praise and support. Out of all the assets that I have, none of them come close to being as easy to use as this. I imported the asset, made a test terrain, brought up the Path Painter window and started testing it out. Within 5 minutes of playing with the different sliders and options I feel like I am a Pro with the tool. It is extremely simple to use and works more than perfect. This is what I want in my assets: to give me a solution to my problem easily and instantly. I didn't have to learn anything, spend time trying to configure anything, read long manuals to find out how to use it, or have it be bloated with things i don't need. I bought it, and it does what I want right then and there. Great Job with this Product.

We are truly happy that you left a review this time. It's great to hear that Path Painter can actually get so close to what the goal was during its conception. We seem to be in agreement on how we like our assets. It's been hard work to make the tool this handy and simple, while being all the more complex under the hood to achieve this. Seeing people having this kind of experience makes that all worthwhile. We are looking forward to what our users' experience will be with our upcoming update. Path Painter was conceived a long time ago and a lot has changed since then. We wanted to add some of the new features that came to Unity since, while keeping the existing features that our users came to know and love. This turned out to be more difficult than we imagined and the update has been quite an undertaking. It ended up to be pretty much a complete rewrite, and we had to come up with elaborate strategies to add the new features while keeping the existing ones. Please feel free to provide feedback, or report any issues you experience via our support channels provided. We want make your experience even better, if possible.

It really is as easy to use as the videos make it look. Paths look great and they easy to edit before and after they have been painted. Solid asset, well worth the investment.

Vanzigon previous version 1.2.1
Loaded up the demo and played around with the settings, extremely easy to use for a good variety of paths and valleys and ledges and what you expect. It takes a lot of trial and error for the perfect look, but if you hold SHIFT down after drawing the road you're free to drag all the sliders and keep adjusting it until you find the result you want. I was worried we might be limited to the 4 textures of the demo since there wasn't a button to add more, so I researched and you just have to select the Terrain object itself in hierarchy, Paint Terrain (paintbrush icon on inspector), go down to Edit Terrain Layers and create layer to add any new graphic you want and it will now show up in PathPainter to make any texture of road and embankment you desire. One of the few utilities that seems to work perfectly in the first 15 minutes without feeling like it needs a week or two of study to use it. I wish more were this easy.

Happy to hear it was a good experience for you, and the kind of experience which was one of the main objectives of the project. Making a tool that's "no training required" can be several times harder, but when we see that we could provide the experience, to at least some degree, that makes it all worthwhile. We will look into how to make textures/terrain layers editing more intuitive, because that question seems to crop up every once in a while, so it seems like we could improve that. Thank you for your feedback!
