This asset is absolutely awesome!

wjb1788on version 2.1.19
This asset is absolutely awesome! I will definitely purchase the full version without hesitation for my official project. Unfortunately, TerrainPreviewURP has issues running in Unity 6000, and using the preview only results in large areas of incorrect pink.

Good Procedural Terrain Generator
shikhrron version 2.1.19
Seems to be powerful. There is an import error - Shader error in 'MapMagic/TerrainPreviewURP': Keyword '_ALPHATEST_ON' is duplicated in several directives. This can lead to unnecessary shader variants. Please remove it from all but one directive.

Thank you for letting me know. Despite it's named 'error' - it is a warning in one of the shaders, and does not prevent asset or shader itself from working. But I admit it should be a bit more neat - it will be in next version.

Amazing!

The_3D_Lunaticon previous version 2.1.17
Really amazing asset! The tutorials are rather old, but almost everything still applies. One exception is the character controller, which seems to be missing from the recent versions, so you have to find your own way to walk around your worlds. Nevertheless, top notch!

Great Product

YehorChevardinon previous version 2.1.17
This is a great product! It solves a bunch of problems for my project! Thank you sow much for developing such a great and powerful tool. However, I just tried to create a brand-new Unity 6 project and import this asset. I choose rewrite option for the scripts to be compatible with some API changes, as Unity editor suggested. When I try to create a graph, just a basic: perlin noise, erosion and then height, I get the following error: Thread failed: System.DllNotFoundException: NativePlugins assembly:<unknown assembly> type:<unknown type> member:(null) at (wrapper managed-to-native) MapMagic.Nodes.MatrixGenerators.Noise200.GeneratorNoise200 Any ideas on how to make this work on Unity 6?

It might be related not with Unity version, but with build target and your current platform. For example, it requires manual native libraries build for Linux. But whatever it is - you can make it work: Window -> MapMagic -> Settings -> disable Native C++ here.

Trouble Getting Started

Ignatius_Reillyon previous version 2.1.17
Clearly, a lot of work went into this, this is very impressive. Sadly, it fails with an error at start. Why do I have to pause working on my game, just to spend time to investigate how to trick this into working?

It would help a lot if you could provide some details about this error - ideally steps to reproduce. Feel free to email me or share it via Discord: https://discord.gg/yCJEgSw

This is exactly what I was looking for to create customizable terrains. It allows you to easily add texture layers and create pretty much anything you want. Add your own textures by creating custom terrain layers, and you’ll be able to do just about anything. Plus, you can use Unity’s Terrain Tool to further customize the terrain afterward. The Strength of This Product The strength of this product lies in the ability to easily customize small terrains. This tool isn’t a terrain generator per se; it simply creates terrain relief using mechanisms already present in Unity. It has nothing to do with AI-powered terrain generators like Gaia. Why don’t some templates work in Unity 6? Simple: materials are used instead of Terrain Layers, and the shader used for those materials isn’t compatible with terrains. It’s the same issue you get when trying to apply a material to a terrain you’ve created without MapMagic. Terrains are meant to use terrain layers, not materials. That’s why the MegaSplat template doesn’t work well, while VsProGraph does. Materials are for meshes. This tool is simple, and if you want, you can keep only the final terrain and delete the script and everything else. That’s really helpful for a dev like me. This tool is ideal for those who want to generate terrain relief but still apply their own textures and elements manually. Map Magic 2 Brush This tool looks good, and I would buy it if it weren’t so expensive. It’s a bit ridiculous to have to buy Spline + Objects + Brush just to use Brush. Without Spline and Objects, Brush is useless because it does exactly what Unity’s Terrain Tool already does for free. If we do the math, it costs $112.50 for all of that. For $199, you can get Gaia VS Pro, which is ten times more powerful than all the MapMagic solutions combined. Once it goes over $100, I’d rather spend the extra $87 for a more powerful solution. We should be able to buy Brush with all the Spline and Objects features for $50 without the auto-generation—just the brush. If I have to spend over $100, MapMagic won’t be my choice. MapMagic is fine, but it’s a very basic tool. In fact, the strength of this software doesn’t lie in its auto-generation features—AI-powered assets are much better.

"it simply creates terrain relief using mechanisms already present in Unity" That’s not actually true. It looks like you might have misunderstood the core idea behind MapMagic. It's not just terrain editor, but it's a procedural map creation algorithm for your game. It creates levels on the go, in playmode. You can change the seed and have completely different map for re-play session. And yes, it's using its own generation algorithms (noise, erosion, etc.), not Unity’s built-in ones. This is done for better control, performance, and results. Sure, you can use MM to make the terrain and then remove it - it's what a brush was designed for - but if you own the Bundle it allows to make way more than that, and hence the price.
