Good asset but issues on Linux

JWLewis777on version 2.6.0
I would have stuck with this asset and kept using it but due to Linux file naming, errors will happen when trying to use different categories. Bummer

It might not look as flashy as some of the newer tools and it might even take longer to set up but it makes up for everything by being solid and dependable. - It has options instead of bloat. - It uses tried and true implementations instead of experimental solutions. - It fully supports other Unity features without getting in the way. - It can handle massive terrains instead of lagging with only a few. - It won't be deprecated in a month. This developer and this asset are worth supporting.

Might work for some use cases, not for me.

Only some functions work in URP and HDRP. Worked well for placing details and meshes. Can't do anything with trees unless you want to add them as meshes or a detail.

Trees need to have shaders that support URP and HDRP for Unity Terrains to work on the Trees tab with URP/HDRP (or you can use Built-in RP). This has little to do with Landscape Builder, but more a Unity pipeline issue. If your tree shaders don't fully support URP or HDRP terrain trees, you can still place them with the Groups System in LB. If you think this is NOT the case, please reach out to our support on Discord or the Unity forum.

Amazingly fast, easy to use, and great support

One of the demo videos -- the third one on this page, I think -- shows the dev creating, terraforming, texturing, and adding trees to a terrain in about five minutes. That video covers everything you need in order to do the same. Creating a nice looking terrain with Landscape Builder is simple and quick. You probably won't create your terrain in five minutes, of course, as you'll spend some time looking at your options. There are quite a few stamps included (and scores more readily available online, many of them free), and a decent number of textures (and it's easy to add or substitute your own). There's a built-in time of day system, also simple to use. The other tools -- a spline tool for paths or rivers, and a tool for adding mesh prefabs -- require a bit more time to learn, but they also seem to work well. (I've used them, but not extensively.) Finally, the developer is active on Discord and was very helpful when I had questions. I also have the pro version of what seems to be the most popular and well known Unity terrain tool, and for my purposes at least, this one is a better fit. It's also a lot cheaper.

Thanks for your kind words. We aim to get devs up and running quickly, then let them explore some of the more powerful features like our Group System for more detailed prefab placement.

Unity 2021.2.x I read a review that a user tried other assets which failed to make a 20,000 x 20,000 world. The user posted he had no issues with this app. I decided to try it and WOW! I watched the videos on the Asset store and then tried a 20,000 x 20,000 high quality terrain. I had NO ISSUES AT ALL. I tried a massive super quality world and it didn't slow down until it used up 44GB of RAM. I spent about 4 hours watching the videos and presto!!! Compared to when I spent $500 on another asset and spent 2 months and was never able to produce any working results. This tells you something. What they advertise saying noobs to pro's is accurate. In my opinion the reason why this asset is so great is that they seem to use the KISS principle (Keep It Simple Stupid). Not only does everything just work OUT OF THE BOX, but where similar product spew errors and crash, this one has details on what it is working on and has not given a single error, warning, or crash for me! The interface is SIMPLE and POWERFUL. This is the VERY FIRST Terrain generating tool that I have used to successfully build the worlds that I want to build. Not only that I simply added the scene to the Build menu and everything simply worked. I can finally build my dream game! The menus are well organized, one for each category like Terrain, Topography, Trees, Grass, etc. I'm a noob to Unity (like 8 months now) and I am the worst at graphics - I am far from an artist, but now I can be who I've always wanted to be. One of the other places this app rocks at is the built-in pre-sets. I've never had good results and I'm terrible hand creating terrain heights. The pre-sets allow you to choose the biome type and presto!!! I can't recommend this product enough for noobs. If you buy anything on the Asset store, I suggest this app and its companion add-on module. WOW! Just WOW! My ten year old will be able to use this in just a few minutes after I tell him how it works. This is a well designed and coded app. I've created many large worlds in my 1st two hours of using it. They should build this into Unity. I also have to tell you one more thing! I don't know how this app works and apparently will never need to. I didn't have to spend months learning how to use it. It works as simple as it is advertised and in the videos. Come on! I mean I created a 20,000 x 20,000 world with mountains, 996 trees per KM, covered in 3 types of grasses, added a character controller, went to the Unity Build menu, added the current scene, and clicked Build and Run. Presto! I had a working game as if it were magic. This should be on the front page of the asset store where all of the top marketed apps are shown. CONS: The program's built-in links and the documentation reference many depreciated assets that are no longer available from the Asset Store. There's even references to Unity 5.x in the documentation. The app shows up in the Unity Windows menu instead of the Tool menu. However, updating the documentation and asset information can only make it better!

Truly amazing and complete asset

This is the best asset I found that is able to create a complex terrain: I needed to make a 20 Km x 20Km terrain divided in 1600 tiles of 500 m each and this asset worked perfectly. The tools is very useful not only to build terrains, but also to apply textures and to spawn trees and grass. The asset has a powerful tool that allows to create masks using stencils. You can also spawn prefabs in a controlled way so that you can generate procedurally villages or small cities. I tried many different tools before of this, but only with this tool I reached actually realistic results. The developer is also a very kind guy and replies on Discord very fast and helped me a lot. You can't miss this tool!!

Minimilianon previous version 2.3.9
I believe I have used ALL the most famous terrain tools around, and after just a few days of using Landscape Builder, I think it will replace everything else in my workflow. This is truly a hidden gem that could easily be sold at a much higher price, imho. It does pretty much everything that is terrain-related, in one tool, for a low cost. If you need a solid terrain tool it's worth grabbing it at full price; if you stumble upon it during a discount (as I did) don't even lose time thinking about it. I am happy I didn't miss this. Of course, just like with anything, it is not perfect. 1. The UI is clear when understood, but a bit counterintuitive imho... might be a matter of habit. No big deal. 2. I don't plan to use its built-in sky, so it's not an issue for me, but the one time I tested it, it dropped my FPS through the floor. Coincidence? Maybe but I don't think so. Worth noting that I put its setting at MAX EVERYTHING (because why not). 3. More a tip than a complaint. I believe the marketing doesn't do it justice. The videos are informative and well made, but not eye-catching. This isn't a problem when using the asset, but I believe Landscape Builder might help many more people who just don't know it exists. XD

Thanks for your thoughts. Yes, it is no secret with all our products we spend 99% of our budget on tool and code development. (Idealistically) we believe game devs deserve no less.

My favorite terrain composing tool

Nilpfion previous version 2.3.9
LB is a very versatile tool that includes everything you need for terrain composing, texturing, placing objects and much more. I have tried many different terrain tools, but none of them allowed such a fast and controlled workflow, so I am able to create exactly the terrain I have in mind. In addition, it also allows you to adjust the created terrain with the standard Unity tools and re-import it, recreate textures or add additional terrain modifications. It has a lot of image-based terrain samples that can be customized and seamlessly inserted into the terrain. Placement of trees and grasses is also very intuitively integrated and allows all possibilities (height, slope filters, hand-painted stencil (map) filters, texture filters, etc. that can be easily combined). The grouping and placing of objects offers incredible possibilities and features that allow easy procedural creation and placement of prefab groups. In addition, there are even more great features in this asset. The support is super fast and the author takes a lot of time to solve customer requests. Great asset, really!

Not only is this a very flexible and stable terrain builder it has enough features to rival the most expensive assets in the store. The developer is very responsive on email and their discord channel and is willing to offer support and tips on how to build better landscapes. *Edit - 2 years later I'm still using it and the developer is still here supporting feature requests. Excellent!
