Its Festival of bugs, not an asset
Dawid_Matuszewskion version 3.4.1
This is nightmare. It has a lot of bugs. You add something with gaia, delete it from hierarchy and still you got plenty of warnings of non existing gameobjects. Controlling the loading terrain is horrible, fix origin floating points its not working.
I was trying to get support on their official discord, but they generally answered to you with "strange, ignore it". This is not 5$ asset, its very expensive and for that money support need to be better. Going to report this asset to Unity support, because its not usable right now

Thanks for your review.
Contrary to your review, Gaia is not a festival of bugs.
You experienced a specific issue that produced a Unity warning, which we were unable to replicate.
As far as we can tell, this appears to be a Unity bug, and it did not prevent you from using the product. We even suggested that you report it to Unity.
Regarding support, two of our team members made a genuine effort to assist you.
Saves a lot of time. There are bugs, but considering the amount of tools and features its nothing that really slows my work down. After getting used to the issues with the asset you can easy work around the issues. Very powerful asset which saves weeks of development time

Thanks for your review.
All new development is now done on Gaia Pro VS.
Of all the versions of GAIA this is the worst. cost a ton, less features, and more limitations, is buggy, etc. Even with a powerful PC just downloading and importing it will bring anything you wanted to do with your computer to a stop for about half an hour at best. When setting up terrain it could randomly freeze and try to have Unity compile something which will take another hour and even prevents you from closing Unity eve3n through Task Manager.
And fun new bug I just found is after the crash the project wont open anymore

Thanks for your review.
Gaia has about 5gb of assets which is part of what you pay for.
It takes time for Unity to import them. Same goes for any other large asset.
And am curious as to how you think it has less features. Every release gets more features, and support for a range of Unity versions.

pulsarxstudioon version 3.4.1
This asset costs 265€ and when you import it, it has bugs.
For this amount of money spent, I'd expect the tool, when imported, to at least not have bugs. I am very disappointed and would not recommend it to anyone.

Thanks for your review.
There are a number of reasons why an asset can throw compilation errors, from namespace conflicts with other poorly written assets to weird pipeline-specific conflicts.
We are happily using Gaia Pro 2021 on massive metaverse projects, with zero issues, and zero compilation errors.
If you would like support to get value from the asset you have purchased, please contact us at support@procedural-worlds.com.
When it works, it is ok but it is a bit buggy with minor hickups here and there, and sometimes you just delete it cos it is so full of nonsense you don't wanna deal with it.
The added bells and whistles are cool though with wind generation, ambient audio, etc.

Thanks for your review.
We find Gaia itself highly stable, but we were not happy with some of the add-on code for controllers, lighting, sound, etc. This code is not core and is also fragile when not done precisely as expected.
We refactored this substantially in Gaia Pro 2023 to be simpler, more modular and more explicit. Overall, the next major release of Gaia is a far more robust system.

It has many tool for providing quick and general areas for my game! It's not perfectly geared for millimetric placement but you cans till modify things by hand after generation.

Thanks for your review!
That's exactly right. Gaia does 85% of the work for you, and allows you to add the magic that makes the magic!
I call it artist driven procedural generation, and IMHO its the most productive way to get a lot of work done fast!
There is not much to say, if you want to quickly create stunning terrains and populate them with ease, this is the asset for you. It is easy to use and can generate whatever terrain you like, fleshing out the world with the customizable spawners in seconds. I can't recommend this enough.

Thanks for your review!
Glad you are enjoying Gaia!
I got this asset in some sale bundle since I was interested in being able to generate populated terrains. At first, it is quite challenging and feels a bit over engineerd, however, there are nice video tutorials that set you in the right path.
The highlight for me is the support though. I had two different issues and after posting them in the forum got daily replies with helpful insight that lead to a solution.

Good asset, bad support
HellraiserGameson version 3.4.1
Let's start with the good things: the asset (when it works) does what is promised. It's a great way to crate a large terrain in a short time. If you use the pre-made biomes, it's just a matter of a few clicks. But the quality of those is not exceptional, so maybe you want to either replace textures and tweak lighting or maybe you want to create your own altogether. I tested with BI and URP, and with those pipelines, Gaia is great.
HOWEVER....
When you start changing things (say, you remove the gaia runtime and re-create it) then things break easily and it's very difficult to find out why. I had to start many times over because of this. And here is the weird fact. With so many evaluations and reviews, I'd expect the Gaia community to be very active. Instead, the forums are deserted and the moderators answer your questions after a day or two, which means you're mostly on your own to figure bugs out.
Lighting-wise, built-in and URP are fine, but HDRP time of day breaks REALISTIC lighting fully and I wasn't able to create an override volume capable of fixing it, with the result I need to buy/create my own weather controller.
So, would I recommend Gaia? I don't know, it depends on your use case:
1) Do you need it for creating big worlds only? Yes
2) Do you are fine with the biome quality out of the box?
3) Do you use built-in or URP pipelines? Yes
4) Do you use HDRP and you want to use the Weather effects built in Gaia? NO
5) Don't you have time to dig into the frequent breaks? NO
6) Do you want to rely on a solid community for help/inspiration? NO
This is my experience after 2 weeks of using gaia every day. I may change this evaluation in the future.

Thanks for the review and for listing the pros and cons of Gaia as you see them!
In Gaia Pro 2023, you will find that many of the issues with the runtime system have been addressed. We have simplified and removed a lot of the old code that had hidden dependencies.
Regarding the notes about support and community:
A reaction time of 24 hours or less from a staff member is stellar for customer support, where the support is included in the purchase price of a cheap asset. Many software companies, including Unity charge a substantial recurring fee per seat for this level of service.
For community interaction, we also offer a Discord here: https://discord.gg/TggjQNN. While users post both on Discord and Canopy, the community is more active on Discord.
