Works but will break your project

Juryiel's review is accurate. This will work but it works in a vacuum and does not play nice with existing masks. The docs don't really address how to deal with some of the common issues mentioned in the reviews.

Will absolutely break your project

This asset is presented as a 'component' asset that works the same as unity's maks but IT DOES NOT. In fact it modifies materials - including the source materials that were initially used - and will therefore break any objects using the same materials. I now have to manually go back and revert the materials to default settings from old versions of the project. Luckily I have backups and version control, but it is EXTREMELY irresponsible to push something like this to the asset store that can break a project and create hours of work in literally minutes. I highly recommend you pull this asset down until you implement a better method for applying your effects.

Works nicely, may need configuration by hand sometimes

This asset will achieve alpha masking by changing the material of what you want to mask away, which can be done with a click of a button. You have to do a little bit of shader coding if you are using TextMeshPro, but it's not too bad. (UPDATE: I have found the source of the issue and the workaround - see the last paragraph.) Currently, it basically works nice with Unity 2020.1.0f1, but I'm also experiencing some glitches where masked UI elements keep turning pitch black unless I reconfigure the masking material every single time I go into play mode. (Support is underway, and will update this review if it's resolved.) FIX: I was applying the mask by adding a GameObject to a Prefab, and this Prefab also had many other different child prefabs. This caused the material on the child prefabs to temporarily change to the expected one, but after one change to play mode, revert to their default one - which often is Unity's Default materal. You need to apply the correct material by hand if this happens.

I just clicked "apply mask to siblings in hierarchy" and it screwed up ALL my gameobjects. Now they're all white. How do I fix this? Also how do I apply this mask to a scroll viewport so it just hides 3d objects outside the viewport? Will update my review when you respond.

I'd like a refund, because this is not a good tool for UI. It doesn't support sliced images. And I don't like that it adds a Mesh Renderer to the game object.

Versatile Asset

I want to use this asset as my fog of war system. So, I have to cover my whole screen with black sprite. First, I expanded scale of black sprite renderer object (location: Multiple Masks Sample > Darkness > black) from default size (x=40, y=20) to (x=50, y=30). Then I moved a mask object close to any sides of the screen, the mask went like the image below. Do you have any idea? P.S. I have read your mail. Good support.

Hi! I have replied to your e-mail. It's not a bug, you just need to make a couple additional alignment steps for the multiple masks to properly work together :)

Fantastic asset

This asset has helped me solve numerous problems with masking. I've used it for ui and 2d characters in game. Being able to have dithered masking opens up lots of interesting possibilities! Also the developer was quick to respond even going so far as to add a new feature to the product to solve my problem. Highly recommended.

Sorry, but nothing special for 2D, you can do 99% of this and much more easy with standart unity mask tools. Very short documentation of 3 items does not work, Tilemaps not supported.

I'm sad to hear that the plugin wasn't useful for you :( Of course, if you only need hard-edge masking, Unity's default Mask is great for that, and I'd never suggest buying ours instead of it. However, the default Mask cannot have soft edges and semi-transparent masking, which is what Alpha Mask is for. As for the documentation, there's a thorough 5-page document in the package, explaining all the parameters, usage options and so on. If there's anything specific that you found unclear or missing from it, please let us know – we're always eager to improve! And last, but not least – our Mask definitely supports Tilemaps, you can mask them. On the other hand, you can't use them as Mask images, because you have to assign a Texture there, but you can always render them into a RenderTexture (screen size or smaller) and then use that RenderTexture as the Mask – there's a sample of how to set this up in the package. All in all, thanks for your comment, it's good to know what problems people run into, so we could help them better.
