This needs to be a 5 to justify itself - it's a 3 for me now. I won't give up yet cause having animations that are physically represented in a game that is physics heavy can be 100% awesome! At least i think it can. Right now i have not gotten it do what I want and it kinda feels bad.
Is this really all it takes to be the best in class on the unity asset store? I had high standards based on other tools like Cozy 3 suite and Staggart's stylized solutions.
This is a joke!
The websites are setup poorly for help and bounce you from main site to forum site back to the main site. And the main site is not secure so that's a lovely little touch. Am I giving them info? No. But fudging secure your fudging website, show some care!
Between Final IK and Puppetmaster and their integration, there's like 30 to 40 demo scenes. each one touching the tiniest little feature. It's exhausting going through all of them trying to get the right solution.
I was getting into hot take territory so I stopped and counted for real instead of guessing.
99!! I counted 99 demo scenes. WTF? Between Final IK and Puppetmaster and their package included that has demos that support them both... 99 demo scenes. and there is like 18 other packages to import if you use some other asset that this plays 'nice' with so that number definitely balloons way past 100 demo scenes for some.
THAT'S TOOOOOOOOOO MANY. Am I nuts? Maybe, but it's still too many.
I wanted this for two main reasons. Stagger and pinning (I throw you and you grab onto the nearest thing like star wars force unleashed)
Stagger is a joke here. 100%, slapstick, comedy joke. It is 100% not effective for a real game that isn't trying to make fun of itself. I was under the impression stagger meant what stagger means. "To move or stand unsteadily, as if under a great weight; totter. synonym: blunder.
To cause to totter, sway, or reel.
The blow staggered him.
To astonish, shock, or overwhelm."
Nope, here stagger means slapstick slip and fall.
It means 1 to 8 steps of 'Woah I'm falling' and then a fall.
It's entirely ridiculous and unusable for a stagger feature. I wanted to hit zombies and have them stagger and keep coming. Nope. They get hit, do their tapdance, then fall over. It's sad.
I went to the class list on the support site and searched stagger. Nothing. Check the scene and parse the hierarchy - Ok the script is called BehaviorBipedStagger. I'll look that on the support site. Nothing. OMG!
So far this was a waste of a purchase and it's difficult parsing the site and the demos to see if I can salvage this. I don't even need it; I already had animated characters that truned the animation off and then ragdolled. I just wanted the extra flourish and I don't think this tool can do it without me dedicating way more time to it then I want.
I would hope that two of the best in class Unity solutions that were out for over a decade each would have better support sites and demo scenes and just easier onboarding.
Color me foolish for buying this with moments to spare on the sale yesterday cause I really had been wanting it and I had Final IK already... but it turns out this might have been a mistake.
But I also can be picky and dumb, so I'll try again. But it really is disheartening after the main feature I want turns out to not be a stagger and I can't find the word stagger anywhere on the help site.

It's hard as balls to set up and to clean up so that the ragdoll doesn't fumble around when it touches a random wall, but behind the pain is a whole new world of possibilities in terms of gameplay.

An essential tool for ragdoll physics!

Look no further if your project requires Ragdoll physics in any way, shape or form. Partial unpinning, active ragdoll hit reactions, falls and getups, and more!
PuppetMaster works very well with Final IK, as they're made by the same developer, and has a wealth of demo scenes that demonstrate different methods, complete with tooltips and notes.
Support is excellent, too, with the developer answering emails promptly, as well as a small but helpful community in the RootMotion Discord. I use PuppetMaster in every one of my projects, and I believe it's helped me become a better developer as well. Five Stars!

The wizardry behind this asset must be something special, it makes something I would take months to do and probably give up trying, possible.
Please note : you will definitely need to follow the instructions before doing anything. They are not difficult, in fact they are easy to follow assuming you have a basic knowledge of Unity. There are detailed video's showing all the steps and typed instructions. You will need to properly look at these first. There's also a helpful Discord where I received some fantastic help, but I wouldn't have needed it had I properly read the instructions/watched video's first.
