Cons:
* It has been in "beta" for a long time (3 years so far);
* No Undo makes it painful to experiment;
* Less functional than regular Unity flares in some areas;
* Limited flexibility, the available parameters seem arbitrary and many aren't very useful in making realistic flares.
Pros:
* Source available;
* Performance is fine.

Completely broken in 2017.1. Editor throws a dozen errors or more when you attempt to edit a flare and you can't update the scripts because its closed source pre-built DLLs. I wish I didn't overlook that last point when deciding to purchase. Damn shame because it looks good.
I'll come back and update the review when they release a fix for 2017.1 and hopefully they'll open the source eventually so we can fix these API changes ourselves.

Please let me illuminate why the code of Easy Flares comes bundled in a library:
(** The points below mainly apply to editor extensions, and not to complete projects/templates **)
1) Compile time
If every editor extension would be shipped as plain code, your project's compile time will skyrocket to exorbitant values.
This will make a smooth production workflow nearly impossible. So every single change to your game code will let you wait unnecessarily.
We always appreciate it when a UAS developer took the time to deliver a split library (editor/runtime),
as otherwise, we'd lose too much time in outsourcing them to precompiled libraries (and repeat this steps with every update).
This procedure is time consuming and from an economic perspective not very reasonable.
2) Optimized code
Precompiling code to a library also lets developers deliver highly optimized code by using external IL optimizers which are not affordable for most of the indie devs.
3) Versioning
Bundled libs can easily be versioned and maintained within a project's ecosystem.
Imagine the case where you have changed some code of an external plugin (that is not bundled in a lib) by injecting some dependencies to your game runtime. Then a week later, the publisher
released a new version with awesome new features.
Now you can either update and lose your changes (or taking the time ensuring backward compatibility by yourself)
or not update and further develop your own code branch (which is in most cases not the goal of the UAS).
4) Modular Development
A modular production environment is essential to game development. Libraries will help the devs in keeping the project modular and the inner class coupling low.
Nowadays, with the democratizing of game dev, there are a lot of artistic driven game projects that rely on external manpower by outsourcing the code engineering parts of the projects.
But they have no guarantee that the external coders have sufficient or adequate knowledge of software engineering and it may happen that the code you get is full of pitfalls caused by
tight/static/wrong dependencies across logical modules that will lead to show-stopping problems in later stages of the project.
Those risks can be minimized by self-contained modules that expose proper events to control the workflow and lean interfaces to extend its functionality.
Easy Decal exposes events at every important stage in its pipeline.
So in most cases, precompiled libraries have nothing to do with information hiding, but with a better dev-experience and a more secure project structure.
Nevertheless, our runtime libraries are not obfuscated so everybody interested in developing their own branch could have access to the plain source code in just 20secs.
We hope you understand that it's not our intention to restrict things but to make things more convenient. Of course, we never refused to provide the source if someone asked for it.

Will change rate if fix this problem

After 6 months, still don't work in Unity 2017, totally wasted money.

Edit: As you can see this plugin has been submitted and approved by Unity for version 2017.1. Unity would never approve plugins that are not working for a targetted version. So please help in improving this product a fill in a bug report or at least contact our support. The other users of Easy Flare will be grateful, too. Thank you.

Implemented in my project very quickly with a fantastic result. The instructions are clear and comprehensive. The editor tooling is of a very high standard. I ended up just using some of the pre-prepared styles and editing them to my liking. I haven't noticed any performance issues using it on the main directional light in a PC game.

It's good to hear that hard work pays off. :)
Love these flares, but setting it up for VR is a little bit tricky (you have to create an additional stereo camera rig just for this plugin). It would be awesome if a later version of this plugin was able to take advantage of the native VR support built into the latest releases of Unity to remove this step (and automatically apply the appropriate stereo offset)

It look just great in the game. Very real.
AAA grade. I have tried a lot of options and this is definitely the best.
A lot of settings that allow you to create a truly natural glow.
And all this gives a more realistic view of the game. It is very easy to understand.
Seller responds quickly to a mail message.
Thank you very much. It is a low price for such a high quality product.
I think that the project will continue to grow and develop. And this is really the best of their kind Asset.

We always give our best to satisfy our customers needs.
My first reviewed item on the store, it's awesome. At first it seems a bit tricky but with some time spent adjusting the masks and transforms correctly you can get any flare effects your after. The occlusion features are great too, buy it. Well worth the cash.

Thank you for your great review. The handling of the different styles is indeed an advanced task with all those settings. But once you get used to it, there's no limit! :)
I already own three assets of these guys and thought I want to give this one a try as I need a realistic light scatter fx.
When I scrolled down the included presets my first thought was: Impressive.
The flares are really good looking and very realistic. The only thing that frightened me was the very complex preset editor (remember when you opened Photoshop for the first time).
Pro
+ Super realistic rendering
+ Procedural flares (beside the lens dirt)
+ Powerful interface
+ Reusable presets (maybe you could sell them?)
+ Easy to set up
+ Good occlusion
Contra
- Lack of mobile support
- If you want to create your own presets, you may have to read the manual

Thanks for your review. Mobile devices will be supported as soon as the texture baking ability is implemented.
