Consistently crashes

I have a pretty hot lap top but this app, aside from have very outdated documentation crashes unity if I try to do anything as challenging as adding a second 3d object. Of course I am stuck with it.

Great asset

Great asset, I used it directly in my last project and it worked really well, just what I wanted. Now in the new project there is a question, when the maximum number of pages exceeds 20? Will make mistakes. Is there a limit on the maximum number of pages?

Hard to handle

What does "Add Page" actually do? Why does "Remove Unused Pages" freezes my project? This asset is barely working in basic aspects!

Hi There Add Page adds a page to the book you can find that on the docs page at http://www.west-racing.com/mf/?page_id=5422 or check the MegaBook 2 videos which run through what every option does also each item in the inspector does have a tool tip that pops up when the cursor is over it. As for Remove Unused pages freezing your project is not something anyone else has reported, and I have had no emails from you looking for help on this, if you contact us we can help you out, it might be nice if you asked for help first. Unresponsive Support and Multiple Bugs

I purchased Megabook 2 from the Asset Store, expecting a quality product with good support based on previous reviews. Unfortunately, my experience has been extremely disappointing. The package has multiple bugs that severely impact its functionality: Pages sometimes overlap, making the book unreadable. It's impossible to create protruding bookmarks because page rotation is incorrect when the book is closed. If you make a prefab from the book, the automatic rebuilding feature stops working. I reported the page overlap bug three weeks ago, providing a video demonstrating the issue and steps to reproduce it. The initial automated response promised a swift reply, but I've received no further communication despite following up weekly via both the support email and the author's personal email. The complete lack of response from the developer is unacceptable, especially given the severity of the bugs. Previous reviews praised the support, but it seems the developer has abandoned this asset.

This asset is incredible. Note for URP users, change the 'Shader Texture Name Override' value to '_BaseMap Dev is very responsive if you email him.

Making 3D books has never been so easy, appealing and fun!

I’ve been on the hunt for a book asset for quite some time now. Back in 2018 I started with Book - Page Curl Pro, which is a great canvas based book asset, however, it lacked the 3D depth that I was looking for when creating augmented realty books. In 2022, I stumbled across Mega Book, the original asset that really got me excited because the books were actually 3D. Unfortunately other projects and life got in the way such that I was unable to even download and try the asset. Fast forward to summer 2023, Mega Book 2 caught my eye, with even more exciting features than the original. My notebook has sketches that could now be brought to life with the addition of 3D models on each page and with an refined runtime stability, it made augment reality books even more possible.

 This weekend I finally got around to downloading the asset and taking a look around. Like most devs, I started with the Demo scenes and very much saw exactly what I desired for my own projects. I then took time to read over the documentation a couple of times before starting my own book. Please note, the Readme contains more up to date steps as to how to accomplish your goals in terms of initial book building and the PDF does a solid job at explaining the other nooks and crannies of the inspector components and API. I started my own project and began messing around with the different settings, reading the documentation as I went. I was able to create some unique page and book cover materials and even added 3D objects to a page or two. Everything was started to line up just I wanted before I stared my race. One thing I was unsure about was how to allow a user to turn the page with their finger, similar to how I have done with the Page Curl asset mentioned above. I triple checked the documentation and then reached out to Chris for their insight on best approaches to implement. Normally I would leave a project and come back when the developer responds days later. However, in this case, Chris responded to me so fast, I was still in the project trying to figure things out. Their email was clear and logical, it made me say “duuuuhh” aloud as I read it. I then took on the task of implementing a custom script to provide the value I then needed to pass to the Mega Book API.

When it came time to pass in the value, I was still unsure exactly how to do it, I had an idea or two and emailed Chris about those to get their insight again… I received a reply with simple steps and explanation on how to access the API. They did in fact make it easy, I was just a bit to narrow in my scope of looking at my project to understand exactly how to do it. With their example email in one hand and my mouse in the other, I went back to the Demo scene per their suggestion to try and find out how the page slider mechanism worked. It was another “aha!” Moment for me and my gears started turning again. I was on track to bringing my sketch book dreams to life and I couldn’t have done it so quickly without this asset and support I received.
 When it comes to All-Star assets in the Unity store, there are a lot that can be talked about, and this is one of them. Not only does the asset do what it says it does, the demo scenes, documentation and support back it up so you really feel like you have something you can build with, instead of a really nice YouTube video without Unity Scene demos and docs to help you through your unique aspirations. I’m very much grateful to Chris for supporting me with my trials getting started and for the asset itself. I very much look forward to the future of possibilities and even recommending this asset to devs I meet along the way. I hope that my roadblocks and feedback can be used to improve documentation for clarity to keep Chris email inbox limited to real issue and complex requests as mine were easily solved by paying closer attention to the demo scene itself. Non of which take away from my satisfaction rating of this product. Cheers!

My previous review gave it 2 stars partly because I failed to understand how to use it properly. All the minor improvements I pointed to have been implemented same-day. Thank you a lot Chris and sorry for my impulsive review :-) To compare with MegaBook1: + better UI/UX and ease of use + huge framerate improvement + works perfectly in WebGL

Hi There Thank you for your purchase and review. Can I maybe ask if you have an issue with the asset that you get in touch and let me know so I can do something about it. I read you review an hour ago and I have addressed the problems you reported and have submitted a new version to the store. It isn't much to ask before leaving a negative review. I try very hard to keep all my assets up to date and fix any issues as soon I know about them, but it is hard to fix something when people don't let you know :O) Anyway to address your points, using the Create Book from the GameObject menu is not the way to make a book, that was left in somehow from the old version. If you check the tutorial videos or the readme in the asset it tells you to use the Window/Create Book window to make a new book, this makes it much easier to create a book, pick a cover etc. The tutorials are there to help. The reason the plugin folder could not be moved was it was expecting to find a folder in a certain place. I have changed the code for that so you are free to move the folder or rename it. Thanks for spotting that. All the params in MegaBook 2 have tooltips top explain what they do so and along with the complete set of tutorial videos that go through every param that should cover it. The Megabook 1 docs though still share a lot of the values so the website docs can also be used still. As for no textures on the pages if you check the MegaBookBuilder inspector there is an info box that says you need to change the Shader texture Override value to suit the shader you are using. By default Unity used to use the name _BaseColorMap in its URP and HDRP shaders, it seems this has now been changed to _BaseMap so I have updated the asset for that. Just put _BaseMap in the override box and click rebuild thats all that is required. The demo scene was built with Builtin indeed and makes use of the Post Processing. I have changed the one script that gives an error if no Post Processing is present, BookCamera.cs, to have a line at the top you can comment out to fix the problem. This script is not part of the main asset and does no effect the functionality of the asset in normal use. Hope that addresses all your points in your review, and again if you find a problem with my assets please let me know and give me a chance to fix them before leaving a bad review. Chris
