Comprehensive, Flexible, and Performant with Amazing Support
7 years ago
mdswansonon previous version 4.0
I come from an iOS background where buttery-smooth scroll views are expected, and I wanted to find a flexible and performant implementation for Unity that would enable the same level of polish. While the Optimized ScrollView Adapter does have an initial learning curve, it is well worth the effort. In a matter of hours, I was able to implement a very flexible scroll view for our VR app that is very professional. Additionally, I contacted the developer twice, and both times, the response was amazingly immediate and comprehensive. I'd even call it the best support I've received to-date for any Unity asset. Highly recommended.

Hi, There's an online manual (link in description and it can also be found under OSA/Docs) which includes exhaustive information about how to get started, an YouTube quick-start tutorial and a quick-setup tool named "OSA wizard" which let's you create a basic optimized ScrollView in less than 1 minute, including generating a minimal script for you to fill with your own game/business logic. The code is also documented in the standard C# format with rich comments in all important areas. In the emails we've exchanged, you presented me with your issue that was then gracefully solved (by you, before I had a chance to reply). You didn't imply anything that you wrote in this review. I'm confused. Can you confirm we spoke at contact@thefallengames.com? Lucian

Excellent scroll view asset

Excellent plugin. Took me a few hours to get up to speed on how to make it do what I wanted, but when looking at the code, it was done right. Customer service was very good. They responded quickly to me two separate times. I tested a few scrollview assets and am using this one in my project. Thank you!

Super fast scroll views even on Mobile
SniperED007on previous version 3.2
My game is full of long list scroll views and I've tried a few other products and even tried rolling my own before finding this one. Really happy that I found this, worth the price as it does a great job where Unity falls flat when it comes to UI scrolling performance with lots of data. The developer is also super helpful and helped me out pretty quickly with a couple of edge case scenarios I had for my game.

Save you many hours optimizing scroll views

The support is great. I found a bug and they promptly gave me advice for patching it. -1 star for the complexity in ramping up but once you understand how the MVC patterns line up, you'll be running. Edit: After listening to my feedback, the author put forth a considerable effort in order to simplify the MVC explanation and dramatically lower the barrier to entry.

Big Disappointment
exoteron previous version 3.1
Got this asset with big hopes - high price, good reviews. It turns out quite the opposite for me: 1. Quality of Code - this is probably the worst part. The code of the asset and the samples is written horribly. The author should check some code quality courses. I will not exaggerated if I say that this is one of the worst projects I have ever seen(and I have seen a lot) in terms of code quality. 2. The Support - tried to contact the support 2 times with what seems to me standard questions. Both times I got fast reponse and I cannot argue with that. However both times I didn't get answer to my questions - I was repeated that using the package requires "moderate programming experience" which was quite aggressive - come on man... if I am writing to you with developers questions and if I am trying to use this package... well probably I have "moderate programming experience" 3. The Price - compared to other packages it is quite expensive and you get nothing that deserves that price. I thought that if it is so expensive it gotta be good. Wrong. Got the cheaper available package - did my job in 10-15 mins (with my "moderate programming experience") and forgot about it.

Hi, In your first email, before you bought the asset, I warned you that you may find it difficult to use the package, especially since your background was mostly on JavaScript, while this asset is written in C#. I ended my last email with "If you find this difficult, let me know and we'll see what we can do :) ", which would include giving you a refund, but I didn't get any reply from you. Honestly, your review shocked me, especially the 'Quality of Code' part. Great care was taken <i>especially</i> in the code aesthetics & consistency. No function has an obscure name, and those that are more complex have an equally-sized documentation attached right above them. But I'm sorry for the experience you had. Hopefully you'll find the next versions of the plugin more appropriate Lucian

Overly complicated implementation, bad examples and terrible importing code structure.

chrisj7won previous version 3.1
Edit after developer comment: HA no wonder you have a 4 star rating. You take the time to report truthful negative reviews and get them expunged so you can maintain your high rating. Honestly I can see you have put in a lot of work building this thing but seriously... ORGANIZE it.. it’s so disorganized. If I could post a screenshot I would. As why is the top level folder named “SRIA”???? Oh yes, and i've reported this project for misleading content and reported you for wrongly reporting me. It goes both ways. The simple demo is far from simple and is hard to read. A simple demo with hard coded values demonstrating the basic function of an optimized scroll view is GREATLY needed. I wouldn't bother buying this unless you have a long time to disect the "simple" demo and try and figure out what part is the drawer and what part is actually needed to use the scroll functions. Edit: The examples have no separation so it is nearly impossible to import the code base without TONS of bloat code. There has been no care in the distribution of this project. Such great potential and a lot of work has gone into it but it needs a lot of organization structurally and after 3 hours of working with it to adapt one of my list views from their "simple" list views there are still peices that don't make any sense.

Edit: The versions that came after 3.1 address all of the issues you mentioned, and many more. Please update to the latest one, if possible, and hopefully you'll have a better experience this time. /End of edit Hi, SRIA means ScrollRectItemsAdapter ('historical' name) and this is explained both in code and in the manual, for the curious one. But even if it didn't have any meaning, it could've been just a name (a bad name, in this case). Although in v4.1 the example scripts were isolated from the demo-ing code (notably, the code for navigating between scenes), I still discourage re-using them directly, because you end up spending more time on changing the code anyway, as opposed to just writing your use-case from start and using them only as a guide, and this may give you the wrong impression that the asset is hard to implement, which we want to avoid. --Lucian

The best solution for your ScrollView/ListView headaches!

pawelkataon previous version 3.2
[Edit: 2018/02/28] 5 stars is not enough! I give 10 stars! I had an issue (a pretty narrow use case) and Lucien went above and beyond to help me. He provided timely, exhaustive responses and came up with a more than satisfying solution for my problem. I can't recommend his asset and -- more importantly -- him, as a professional, enough. Seriously best spent money on the Asset Store! Thank you! -- [Original] This is an invaluable asset for everything related to List Views. I quickly learned how to use it and implemented it in my game. Now it's faster, smoother and I'm using much less memory, which is important when developing for mobile. I contacted support about one thing and my ticket got a solid response very fast. That's a big plus in my books. Overall I'm very satisfied. I'd buy the asset even if it was twice the price because it helped me cut development time considerably.

Reviewer was gifted package by publisher.
It's obvious that quite a lot of offort and dedication was put into it, at least because the optimizations they've done blew my mind (I'm myself into optimizations as a programmer) and I'm extracting it and using it other projects The code is well-structured: 9/10 Documentation : 9/10 Examples are really more than you'll ever need + the YouTube quick start was really helpful: 10/10 Support is god-like: 11/10
