Extremely misleading name for rather useless package
3 years ago
MaxxVelocityon previous version 3.2.9.3
I'm giving it a 3 only because it's my fault for not reading the documentation more carefully before purchasing. This is NOT a "core game kit" at all, not even close.
My assumption was that all the spawning stuff were just particularly unique features that this kit includes but no, it's the ONLY feature set this kit includes. No input handling, scene management, pathing, inventory management... you get the idea. Nothing that you would call "core" to a game design. Like, zero.
If all you need is some very specialized spawning dynamics then this might be useful, but I really cannot understand why anyone would call this a "core" asset when it's entirely inappropriate for the vast majority of game designs.
As for my needs, I might use something in here someday, but it was essentially a complete waste for money for now. I'm still going to have to write thousands of lines of code myself to solve the most basic needs. You know, like controller input!

We're sorry the package wasn't what you were expecting.
It is, however, definitely a "core" gamekit. It provides core functions which any game needs: variable tracking, pooling, spawning, and events. It is not a "complete" gamekit or full game template or similar.
It also includes many additional features like levels & enemy waves setup, a really well featured "killable" despawn event system, and much more.
You can always ask questions before purchase. We are extremely responsive over email and through our and Unity's forums.
Thank you for the review. You may request a refund if you're inside the 30 days by emailing us at support@darktonic.com with your invoice PDF file.

Great Asset but lacks examples
DarkEmperoron previous version 3.2.9.3
This asset is really good at prototyping
but it misses out some good examples with 3D content.
Ex. use of the asset and a character controller or use of the asset in an rpg style example.
There are only 2D examples to be found inside.

You can easily add this to a 3D scene. I even have a video on youtube where I modify one of the example Unity projects which is 3D to use Core GameKit spawner.
O
I bought it in 2017.

Thank you for the review!
I just noticed this message: Thank you for purchasing this asset on Jan 31, 2014. Please leave a review.
Well i have had this asset for many years and i never released anything with it, however i found it extremely usefull for my rapid prototyping and have used it many times for 2d shooters..
Totally Worth it, and i find it to be very cheap considering the content of the package.

Thank you for the review, we still use it in our games as well.
I'm just a beginner in coding C#, but this plugin helped me a lot in making games that I wanted. The support is amazing, giving ideas/solution to my problem. Documentation is awesome, what else could I ask for. This is a must have plugin for a beginner like me.

TwoGetheron previous version 3.2.8.9
I am very new to game development. This plugin saved me incredible amount of time and effort. I strongly recommend you start with the Quick Guide FIRST before watching any videos so you understand the basics.
Support is outstanding, usually answers within 1-2h!

Unbelievable!

The_3D_Lunaticon previous version 3.2.8.5
Makes creating games a breeze! I'm using this in conjunction with PlayMaker and Master Audio, and I don't need to write a line of code... which is great as I'm a 3D artist and slightly allergic to code.

Solid and comfortable pooling
OlliIllustratoron previous version 3.2.8.1
Unity 2019.1
I used only the PoolBoss, so can`t comment on the other features.
PoolBoss rocks!
It really reduces the integration of pooling into a project to a matter of minutes, just replace your Instantiate and Destroy with PoolBoss.Spawn and PoolBoss.Despawn (and pass the params) and done in most cases.
I love the visual feedback with the colored pooled items, makes it so easy to see where you run out of pooled clones (or where you have too many unused ones).
PoolBoss is technically rock solid and supereasy to integrate and use via script.
My only critical remarks:
I wonder why you have not added a function that returns the unused available items in a specific category as List<Transform> (you have one that returns the used ones and one that returns the number of unused items, but this one is weirdly missing).
Was easy to add, but should be in there already.
And a button to delete a category with all items in it would be welcome, since it is pretty tedious to delete a large number of items from a category via the PoolBoss inspector until finally you can delete the category itself.
Keep up the great work, this is a very valuable asset.
Indeed a core asset, will include it in most of my projects from now on.
***Edit:
The asset creators contacted me for details and the next update will include the function I was missing: dedicated developers! 6 Stars.

Thanks for the review. The inability to delete a category that still has items in it was done as a safety to the user. It's probably helpful more often than it's a hindrance, but I understand that it may be annoying once in awhile.
What would you do with a list of available transforms from a Pool Item? Let me understand the usefulness of it please. Feel free to email us at support@darktonic.com to have a discussion.
Over sometime I've acquired a few assets that are must haves for any project I am working on.
This certainly is one of them.
It is very easy to use, the options in there cover pretty much any pooling scenario necessary, and the developer actively and swiftly responds.
For the price, this asset is well worth it, the amount of time it saves is incredible, I just really enjoy how it flows.
Recently he added a few options I required for my project which makes it worth even more!
SuperB asset and support.
It's not just worth a buy, it is a Must Have.
