I am really only interested in URP and WebGL. I got this asset because it was different. Tinker with it. Do something different.

Having a lot of trouble setting this up

I have been trying to set up a project intended for development for AirConsole. I'm talking about fresh, clean and empty projects. Importing this asset often results in an error (one was 'IOException: Sharing violation') that nobody has a solution for. And sometimes it's more vague, like not being able to create the AirConsole object. I am always trying to follow this guide: https://developers2.airconsole.com/airconsole-unity-plugin . I have tried different Unity versions, which result in different problems. I even tried 2019.4.40f1, because that's what is confirmed to be supported, supposedly and I still couldn't get it to work. I might just be unlucky, but it's really frustrating.

If you see this error Assets\AirConsole\plugins\Newtonsoft.Json\.... You need to change API Compatibility Level to .NET 4.x. Worked for me. Now review time. I just tried gyro example and I am amazed! It is working perfectly, little bit of lag, but I am interested in it's potential, and I think it is huge!

in 2018.3 i open packages and get 20 error related to newtonsoft.json . Example: Assets\AirConsole\plugins\Newtonsoft.Json\Utilities\DynamicReflectionDelegateFactory.cs(41,20): error CS0246: The type or namespace name 'DynamicMethod' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) Assets\AirConsole\plugins\Newtonsoft.Json\Utilities\ILGeneratorExtensions.cs(38,42): error CS0246: The type or namespace name 'ILGenerator' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

What you really should look for is not the plugin itself. It works as well as you know what you're doing with it. Your real interest must be the new interactive worlds you can create using this plugin to make games for AirConsole. I was a bit skeptical at first, but could still see it's potential from afar. After getting to work on it, I was surprised by how well it works and inspired to create new gaming experiences that only AirConsole can deliver. The docs can use a bit more work for those that never worked with JSON and html, but the plugin never failed to deliver.

Great for making couch co-op games

This plugin allows you to make games for AirConsole (an online platform), in which smartphones are the controllers. The ability to develop games for multiple screens allows for for some really fun game mechanics (information asymmetry, dynamic controllers and using the gyroscope or accelerometer while looking at a main screen) which previously were mostly limited to the small or difficult markets of AppleTV or the WiiU. The games made with this plugin only work when hosted on AirConsole's servers. People can play your game either through their website or you can embed your game on a website. I've made one game on their platform (Acorn's Unite) and I am in the process of making another. My experiences so far have been very positive. The plugin is really easy to use. After adding an AirConsole game object to your scene you can have html/js on your phone sending messages to Unity WebGL and vice versa within minutes of adding basic code. There is a concise Unity guide and a well documented JS API (which the Unity plugin almost entirely matches). Any questions to AirConsole are answered quite quickly through email/reddit/discord etc. The plugin provides the option to start play mode with virtual controllers (phones emulated in a web browser). This makes testing changes a lot faster. The messages from your phones to the Unity Editor or your WebGL build have to go through AirConsole, so you need to be connected to the internet to test your game. Even though this does introduce a delay/lag in the controllers, it is surprisingly minimal. There seems to have been a lot of effort put into making games on their system easy. They have thought quite a few things right down to easily customising your game's loading image and progress bar. The team behind the plugin are very helpful: I reported an error the day Unity 5.6 came out (Unity had changed something with their WebGL build templates) and AirConsole had a fix out that same day. One of the major benefits to AirConsole is that the hosting and basic promotion of your game is done by them. This allowed my first game to reach a lot of people it otherwise wouldn't have. I also got quite a few of my non-gamer friends to play my game, because they already had a mid-range pc and smartphones.

Works perfectly. Requires some learning and getting used to. JSON knowledge is needed so if you only know basic C# you might have a bit of a learning curve

Wow! AirConsole is a neat service and is quickly growing. The service has stabilized and is really easy to develop for. We integrated into an existing game in under a week
