Overall:
Very confusing usages. Very limited use-cases. No single target in-game selection (which is kinda basic use-case for isometric game). I see no point using this asset at all. Regret buying it even with discount. The cost for this asset should be $15 max.
Assets:
Zero tooltips/titles on the scriptable objects editors. Very limited GC2 integration. Does not feel like a part of the ecosystem. Very poor choice of the icons and most of the times using wrong ones (for example Instruction icons for non-instruction elements).
Examples:
ONE DEMO SCENE. Literally one demo sample (+ FPS) scene. No demo scenes for videos used to the package page. Super confusing demo scene without comments to simplify it. I really think the author should put at least some effort into making it more user-friendly.

I'm sorry your experience has been underwhelming. Every use-case is different, abilities offers the tools to create a wide variety of effect, but some things might work a little different than what you expect. In cases where there is a lack of support for specific use-cases, I invite you to join the discord server to discuss it, there might be a way to implement it you did not consider or it could be a feature that can be added.
I'm not sure which parts of the system was confusing to you and which tooltips were lacking, everything has been designed to be as straightforward as possible, but in case of confusion, there is always the documentation available in the package and online: https://docs.daimahougames.com/abilities/
The demo scene covers most use-cases. If something is not clear or missing, there is a support server to address any issues you might have.
Pros:
+Synchronizing animations with abilities and effects is very easy (best feature of this asset)
+Varied abilities (single projectile, multi projectiles in a cone shape, cast on location, etc)
Cons:
-The biggest dealbreaker in my opinion is the cast on location ability. I bought this asset exclusively for that ability to display an indicator on ground and cast ability at location
But this only activates if you have a valid target. Thats a problem. There should be an option to cast abilities even without a target
If you're making a classic RPG, you'll like this because it means you always hit the enemy. But if you're making an action game then this is terrible because the player has no way to miss. either it activates an hits the enemy every time, or it never activates since no target is in range
I'll probably just end up using SPAM framework or just make my own ability system from scratch

Really good add-on for Game Creator 2 if you're looking to build a proper skill/ability system. It already has useful features and the dev is super active and helpful. What I really like is that he's actually listening to feedback and actively working on improvements — including better integration with other GC2 modules. It's not 100% there yet, but it's clearly heading in the right direction. Definitely worth picking up if you're building anything with abilities in GC2; and its worth joining the Discord server!

Review Summary:
If you want to create skills without hardcoding them either in C# or GC2 Visual Scripting, this is your asset! I am a designer, not a programmer (I know my basics but that's just it) and this asset has helped me a lot to do what I wanted in...seconds almost.
You MUST read the documentation to understand this asset, it's not as easy as just touching stuff, but it's knowledge that will save you time, it's incredible.
About the skills:
You are able to customize a lot from skills, you can have channeled skills or cast skills, but you can tweak this so that your channeled skill can be a beam or a healing area around the player or an specific target (even a point in the ground where the mouse is looking at!) Your casts can be one fireball or multiple in a cone, around you etc... You choose!
Of course, the asset can improve on a lot of things, but the dev is always listening to feedback so I think this asset is growing little by little to be one of the best GC2 assets out there.
About the Developer of this Asset:
If all that I said wasn't enough, the dev is always listening to feedback, this asset has it's own Discord AND Documentation. I think I had one of the most strange request for this asset to the dev and he helped me every step of the way, which was awesome.
Overall a perfect 9/10. The asset needs a bit more to become ultra powerful but it's already an incredible asset to have if you want to have multiple skills in your game!

lack of examples, but usable

Is this asset fine if you want to cast spells as the player? Yes. Is it okay if you want more than that? well... the main problem of this asset is a lack of examples.
Want NPC's like enemies to cast spells? There are no examples, even though the video shows NPC's firing at the player character.
Edit: So here I will explain it. Create a character like you normally would with Game creator 2 (or copy the player character and disable is player on the character component). On the pawn component, remove the brain feature. There should be a caster feature that has the ability. Have a Game creator 2 trigger component with a cast instruction (caster = the enemy character, manual target input = target game object, game object = player, ability to cast = asset, asset = the ability, wait to complete disabled). You can also use a run action and have the cast instruction inside of the action. Also, check inside the ability if character is set to self instead of player for where to spawn the projectile. E.g. in fireball ability A_Fireball, the character is normally set to player, making the fireball appear in the hand of the player character. Of course, in this case, we want the fireball to appear in the hand of the enemy character. Also, when the enemy is not doing anything but you expect that it should, make sure your player character is in range of the enemy caster, since there could be a check within the ability on distance.
Want your spells to reduce HP of an enemy? Get hit by a spell and get your HP reduced? No examples, but install the game creator stats 2 module and you will understand enough from the examples in that module to combine it with this asset.
Tutorials? On the website and in the documentation it says coming soon. It has been saying that for two years.
I am referring to https://docs.daimahougames.com/abilities/tutorials/ and the tutorial section of the pdf. Based on the pdf, you should be able to figure it out how the asset works, though.
Also, the UI in the demo scene is broken. You cannot click on a hotbar icon to cast a spell. Only the keyboard works (e.g. press 1 on the keyboard).

Regarding the demo scene: while it has been updated over time, no features have been removed. For top-down setups, you're likely referring to the "Cast on Location" targeting system, which is still included. You can find more details here: Cast on Closest Target Documentation. An example of this can be find in the demo, the name of the spell is "barrage".
To have NPCs cast spells, simply use the Cast instruction, available in the instruction menu.
As for features like an HP system, you're correct—this is not part of the Abilities module, as it's already handled by the Stats module.

Expands GC2 with various types of spells and magic. It has a similar spell customization to Melee2.
The module has a lot of room for improvement and the developer is updating the module.

Amazing Asset for GC2

I look some time to understand this module, but with the help of the support on discord it became clear. This module does everything I wanted very easily, it is a great (almost mandatory) complement of GC2, it just became one of the best modules in GC2 for me

I can’t recommend this Unity asset enough! It’s well-built, works flawlessly, and is super easy to integrate into your project. What really impressed me, though, was the amazing support. I ran into a small request i had, and the team had it solved and added in just 2 hours, seriously impressive! Plus, they pushed out an update within a few days to make sure everything was up to date. It’s rare to find this level of quality and responsiveness. Highly recommend!

Creating abilities with this asset is extremely easy and satisfying. Works perfectly with GC2 as it's extension.
Great support on Discord channel that have helped me to clarify some features.
If you're making RPG or any similar genre with abilities, this one is MUST HAVE.
