I’ve been using Dialogue System for Unity in production for over 2 years, and at this point I genuinely consider it one of the most important assets in my entire pipeline. Whether you're building a small indie game or a complex narrative-driven project, this plugin gives you everything: Dialogue trees Variables & quest tracking Cutscene sequencing Localization Integration with UI systems Save/load support And deep extensibility for custom systems It’s not just a dialogue tool — it’s a complete narrative framework. What truly makes this asset stand out, though, is the support. Tony (the creator) is one of the most responsive and patient developers I’ve ever interacted with. Multiple times over the past two years I’ve run into edge cases, custom implementation needs, or integration questions — and every single time he replied quickly, clearly, and with genuine care. Not just short answers — but detailed explanations and real solutions. That kind of long-term support is incredibly rare in the Unity ecosystem. I’ve integrated it into complex production workflows, custom managers, save systems, and UI setups — and it has always proven reliable and flexible. It scales well and doesn’t fight against custom architecture. If you're serious about building story-driven games in Unity, this asset isn’t optional — it’s foundational. Huge respect to Tony for maintaining it at such a high level for so many years. Absolutely recommended.

I was recommended this asset by a friend of mine. It's exactly what I needed to write and mange dialogue in my game. I found it easy to learn and use. Probably the best dialogue system on unity. I would highly recommend!

DSFU绝对是一个庞大的资产——它不止实现了编写、储存并显示对话的功能,还做了很多额外的事情,比如说任务系统和存档系统。 但庞大的体量也带来了问题:大量让人眼花缭乱的可配置项,详细但依然不够用的文档,以及功能过于全面导致它在小型项目中从插件变成了框架。你也许只是需要一个简单的web服务器,结果却引入了spring和react。 你知道吗,如果场景中没有相应的actor组件,那么一些指令可能不会正确运行。我确实花了一番力气才明白这一点。 如果你完全不懂程序,或者是一名中高级程序员,那么这也许会是一个好资产。但如果你是一名初级程序员,那么你也许应该谨慎一些,评估一下自己是否有能力驯服这条奇美拉。 如果你的目的只是做一款带有对话功能的2D小游戏,也许应该选择更加“轻量”的插件,甚至干脆换个引擎。例如,dialogic也是一款广受欢迎的对话插件。

This is the worst asset ever. You have to build your whole game around it, because forget integrating it, you will fail. I failed multiple times and always wanted to give it another shot. Skill issue? Probably. This asset should have solved that problem for me and not bully me into rolling my own solution. It just does not make sense. It is overcomplicated and does too much, trying to handle every edge case and forgetting that we just want to put text on the screen. Tony is a great guy though, very active in supporting this asset, which is a problem in itself. He shouldn't have to. Take a look at the forums. There are so many questions about basic usage, because it just is not clear. The documentation doesn't help much if you don't know what you are supposed to be doing. The tutorials are outdated at best. The lua layer is just the cherry on top, complicating things further.

Very complete asset and easy to use

In addition to offering a dialogue system, this asset also allows you to create quests and track them very easily. It also enables and simplifies the translation of texts and the saving of quest states. Having all of this managed by this asset helps me a lot in organizing my project. My only regret: not having used it sooner.

Undeniably the best of the best

It is hard to overstate how good this asset and its developer are. First, D.S. provides an enormous amount of flexibility with minimal effort. Second, after using this asset for a couple years I can confidently say the developer is top tier in support. I have had countless questions answered anytime I tried to do weird stuff with the kit. Lastly, if you're still undecided, consider how many updates this kit receives and the level of integration with the other assets from the developer. I don't like leaving 5 star reviews as I hold the idea to a VERY high standard . In this case, Dialogue System has easily achieved the rating.

I say this , as a purchaser of many products here in the asset store, and many gripes with purchased assets over the years, from abandoned and left here, to maybe not so abandoned, but not so well maintained either. The Tool itself, is literally amazing, allowing one to easily set up and run quests, conversations, cutscenes and cinematics, as well as drive so much more, so very easily. Its actually quite diffcult to encompass all this tool can do, especially when you just have the title 'Dialogue System', as at first, many might thing, well , it just manages dialogue, like many others. But on no... this is not the case. This tool has become a staple in everything i do, as it offers so much. From saving and loading data (your choice of player prefs, or better yet json), to scene transitions and more. It is by all means, a powerhouse tool. Templates are offered for custom save data, custom sequences, and more, and not to repeat myself, but the list of what a sequencer can do , is just far to extensive to get into here, but... you can do so much , so easily. Amazing. Having dealt with many developers and their online discord support, i can honestly say, there is none better than Tony Li. Continuosly delivering quality updates, and expanding the system, even delivering critical patch updates if reported live on server... His support is again, by all means, unparalleled by the competition. Thank you sir, for such an amazing product, and support.

I've been using Dialogue System for Unity for about 2 months now, and the default components it provides are so poorly made and complicated that not a single one can be used as-is. I'm making a simple RPGMaker-style game, but if I use this as-is, I'll never be able to make an actual game—at best I could make a conversation simulator. The worst piece of among them is the dialogue input window—there's no Undo function, poor sorting, and inputting languages other than English is weird too. It's better to input and import separately from elsewhere. I bought it thinking I could just click on components and everything would work automatically, but to use this thing, you basically need to do some coding. You have to custom-make everything yourself. But I guess it can't be helped—RPGs with dialogue all have different systems. It seems like the asset developer made it this way trying to make it work without issues across all projects. I do appreciate that the developer is working hard answering questions one by one on the forum though. To use this asset without major problems, it seems more appropriate for programmers to use it when they already have a system somewhat established.

I use Dialogue System and Quest Machine, and both work amazingly together and individually. Tony Li of Pixel Crushers is amazing too, as he's always respectful and is always quick to answer questions about his assets on his discord server.
