This asset demonstrates a high level of technical ambition and flexibility. The humanoid controller is where it performs best setup for human characters is fast, intuitive, and largely automated. For standard Synty Studio humanoids, everything works almost immediately with minimal effort.
In contrast, the animal controller feels far less polished and unnecessarily overcomplicated. There is no comparable quick setup process, and configuring animal characters requires navigating a large number of settings with little guidance. The workflow is not intuitive and often feels like it was designed specifically around the creator’s own animal assets rather than general third-party models.
The tutorials and documentation for animal controllers are outdated, and nearly all example videos rely exclusively on the creator’s own animal models. There is little practical information on how to adapt the system for other assets, including Synty Studio animal packs such as dogs. Even when using properly rigged and animated models, achieving correct behavior can involve extensive trial and error.
Overall, while the humanoid controller is streamlined and user friendly, the animal controller suffers from being overly complex, under documented, and less refined, making it difficult to use effectively with non-author assets.
So I really appriciate if, a similar setup can be added in the future for animals or create a video to how to setup SyntyStudio animals properly as an example.

Yes there are bugs but the discord support will not disappoint you. Overall, one of the best controllers out there!

I'm actually playtesting to see if I can release a new Hotfix next week!
I own pretty much every character controller on the asset store. And they all feel bloated and bad organized. Which led me to make my own solution. Now that i got to the part where I add animals I stumbled across this. And I am kinda sad cause this is so well built and I am slowly coming to the conclusion to integrate my stuff into this controller. I just wish I found this sooner :D.

I feel like some kinks can be ironed out before giving this 5-stars.
Not trying to be picky, but here are a few things I noticed while playtesting the demo scenes on Unity 6.000.2.12f1 repetitive weapon swapping and other things bug out.

I don't typically leave reviews, but I really feel the need to do so here. Malbers is truly in a league of it's own when it comes to Unity's asset store.
I'm a novice, slowly learning C# and game development in my free time as a hobby, looking at a very long road for Developing the game I've always dreamt of and Malbers has taken me a looooong way in a very short time. It has a learning curve, but only because it's a very powerful and flexible system. Basically everything works right out of the box, even if the documentation on the website and the videos are a bit outdated. After a few weeks of research and trial/error, even I have managed to get something fun on screen. The framework is there to create anything, as long as you have the patience to figure it out.
Also, you're not alone if you encounter issues. Send Malbers an email and actually receive a kind and knowledgeable answer. I fought and fought to get Unka (the dragon asset, not in this package), just to land on the ground correctly. I was getting very frustrated and honestly was wondering if I should just give up, which is when I swallowed my pride and sent a simple email to the team. It wasn't well written, it had no details other than what I was trying to do, it was a tired and desperate plea for help. Did I receive a snarky answer or get ghosted? Absolutely not. I received a kind answer filled with gratitude for even using the asset, and best of all the simple setting I was overlooking was shown in a screenshot and pretty thoroughly explained.
I'm slow to spend money on things, but I am going to own all of malbers assets at some point. I am blown away by the team and the quality of their work. Sincerely, thank you guys for this.
If you're like me and looking to get into Game Development, this is the set of assets you are looking for.

Amazing asset but READ BEFORE YOU BUY

I rarely leave reviews (I’m a software engineer, not a professional game dev) but after seeing some frustrated comments about this asset, I wanted to share my experience.
First: this system is phenomenal. It’s almost a game engine within a game engine; a full third-person behaviour framework for both players and NPCs. The depth and flexibility are unmatched and easily worth more than the asking price.
But it’s important to understand what it isn’t. Malbers Animal Controller is not an animation system. It’s a behaviour system that controls animations - it doesn’t provide them (beyond samples). If you buy it expecting a library of animations, you’ll be disappointed.
I misunderstood this myself. The store description says it’s an “animation framework controller… usable with any character in the Assetstore.” That’s technically true, but easy to misread. You can use the controller with any character, yes, but Malbers’ animations are built on a control rig, not a standard skeletal rig. They’re tightly bound to his own models and reusing them elsewhere will take serious skill.
None of that is a complaint. Once you grasp what it really is, it’s outstanding. My only real criticism is the documentation. It hasn’t kept pace with updates, and the video tutorials, while great, are now outdated. For a system this sophisticated, clear and current docs are essential.
So, while it’s a brilliant tool, it’s also a complex one. The learning curve is steep, and while I always consider docs a part of the product, in this case, it really matters. For that reason (and because of the small risk of newcomers misunderstanding what the asset does) I’m rating it 4/5.
If you know what you’re getting, it’s one of the best assets you can buy. But if you’re expecting plug-and-play animations, you’ll need a rethink.

A simply excellent quality character controller with awesome capabilities and a lot of usage case potentials. A simply excellent, true bang for the buck investment and addition to one's Unity toolkit that is without a doubt worthy of any potential purchase considerations
