Has some problems

NewMagic-Studioon previous version 1.8.2
The pathfinding system documentation is really bad, you cannot set the pathfinding system with it. I tried using AIFSM and Aitree but none gives you any way to add the pathfinding node. I can set the pathfinding map but that is all then the ai agents do nothing as can't add a pathfinding node as mentions the documentation. If there is any way is zero intuitive and documentation is wrong. In general is a package where you will have to invest lot of time to learn it. It offer what you see in the video but if you try to add something else you will need to spend lot of time trying to understand and modify the system. You can buy things from a vendor and the items go to your equipment, but there is not option to actually equip those items in another UI where you can show the weapons, armor, helmet, etc.. that the character has equipped, you just easily make the character equips the item but is not so easy to show it in the UI and be able to drag items from the UI with equipped items and the inventory. Also about the support i got some help but could be more helpful, the replies use to be not good. After making this review i didn't get any more help. So can be good just if want to use if exactly for what the video shows if don't want to get stuck, if not i would just have made everything myself. Actually to understand everything takes a lot of time anyways. Also the text in the dialogues you can't translate them to several languages

Thank you for your feedback! Flare comes with plenty of Tidbit scenes. There is one for AI pathfinding for the follow ogres. There you can see how it's setup correctly. Sorry you had this experience! There is usually a small learning curve. If I missed your message on discord, let me know, but I usually reply to all of them within the day. Kind regards.

A very good and powerful resource. If there’s something you don’t understand, you can ask on Discord and quickly get support from the developers. The only thing that feels a bit inconvenient at the moment is that some features are controlled through gizmo drawings, which makes it impossible to adjust them precisely by entering values. In addition, some methods and functions cannot be copied and pasted (though it might just be that I haven’t figured it out yet).

The great asset for making a 2D platformer game. So many features and 2d physics are included in this engine.

Very nice asset! Also i was lost and couldn't find something to assign to an animation. I asked for help, and it didn't take even 5 minutes for him to help me solve it. Thanks my brother.

Exactly what I needed to bring ideas to life!

I've been searching for a way to develop a game idea i've had for the longest time, but I didn't want to spend months slowly building every system from scratch. Flare engine gave me a rock solid foundation and let me focus on what matters most to me, the World design, sound, music and overall feel, without the usual headaches I get from programming everything myself. This is beautifully crafted and well put together, and easy to pick up. The documentation is super detailed, some small things are missing from it but I managed to figure it out with a bit of common sense! I heard that the developer is pretty active in the community and to me that seems they clearly care. I purchased this with high anxiety hoping that it wouldn't just be an asset bought and put on the shelf, but fixing a few errors to migrate to unity 6 and a few hours playing around with Flare engine and I think I have found an actual gem. If you want to dive into make your dream Metroidvania (and probably other genres) This engine is an absolute gift. Highly recommended!

Extremely rude developper - asset not working for unity 6
6 months ago
daimadoushion previous version 1.8.2
1. Ask about why there is compilation errors in unity 6 2. Get met by passive aggressive message explaining I have to modify the code to fix it 3. Followed by insults after mentioning this should be fixed by them, not by me. Recommend to stay away.

This user didn't read the setup guide for Unity 6 included in the asset store description, and was then unwilling to make the required changes. Using Flare in Unity 6 does take a little more effort, around five minutes of setup ( Just a few name changes). That said, I’ll be releasing Flare’s successor by the end of the year. It will use a fully node-based system, offering more flexibility for complex games. This unfortunately will not be compatible with Flare and will be a new asset. For now, I still recommend Flare for projects with simpler setups.

The compatibility issue with Unity 6 should be fixed out of the box in the latest version. Thank you!

I tried to use this engine. There are few tutorials, not enough. This engine have great QoL like with the SpriteEngine, but i gave up and use my own movement, camera and animations. I can't recommended it. Use it on your own risk

Best For 2D But Can work with 2.5D
lokehoonon previous version 1.8.14
It can be used with 2D games very well, but it requires a fairly complex learning curve. It can be used with 2.5D games, but it may not be perfect. The system covers almost all aspects of 2D game creation, including menus, worlds, UI systems, inventory systems, and controllers for mobile devices.

Highly functional and cute as a button!

Darknight747on previous version 1.7.6
An easy 10/10, definitely highly recommend! Functionally this is a very easy to use and powerful framework for making pixel-like 2D platformer games on top of Unity, especially if you're a beginner or teaching someone new or your coding ability is limited. I'm actually surprised that I find myself going back to Flare Engine again and again despite Corgi still being my default go-to framework. I think the 80's/90's nostalgia factor is very strong with this one, and the games you can put together using Flare are relatively quick, surprisingly functional and expansive in the features they cover, really fun to play, and just too damn cute to put down or let go of (for goodness sake, the Flare demo character looks like a red-haired Lara Croft, and whoever did the pixel design and animations really knows their stuff). The fact you can tweak the pixel sprites directly in the engine, that the price is right, and that it still gets regular updates and additional features added to it makes it an easy investment. The main reason I can recommend this boils down to: - it's good. - it's simple and easy to use. - powerful enough to make fun and surprisingly complex games. - good long-term investment as new features and assets keep being added regularly. - the demo character, weapons, and visuals seem to be done by a professional pixel-artist. Yeah, this is definitely one that belongs in your toolbox. Just get it already (or if you're on the cheap, wait for the semi-annual Unity 50% discount and get it then... no excuses).
