Great product but not for Sword vs Sword combat
3 years ago
NinjaPlaygroundon version 1.6
I have a love / hate relationship with this product. While everything here is great for what it is, that strictly depends on what you need it for. If you're creating a game similar to the demo, a third person action RPG, then this will work excellent for you. Doing a VR game where you simply need to hack away at enemies? Also great for VR purposes. It's not even difficult to modify the code to add Unity Events or anything else you may need, but where this product fails, is where most products fail to address during melee... and that's weapon vs weapon (fast moving objects) against each other, especially for VR. Setting up for VR is fairly straight forward and having your weapon react against enemies, shields & all other objects "walls", spawns particle effects and random sounds is great. Having your VR weapon NOT go through geometry works a majority if not 99% of the time with static & even thin geometry. This as a whole makes the VR experience quite great, but where thing begin to break is when objects begin to move. Take ANY object in the demo scene and cause it to rotate. Hold your weapon (even if 1000 markers added) in the way and see how often it detects a collision. The faster any object spins, the more often it simply doesn't detect a collision. Movement doesn't have to increase much before you notice collisions being ignored. This is no better than using colliders or any other system once speed is introduced into combat. This makes weapon vs weapon combat no longer a viable option with this product and you'll have to find other ways of looking into the movement vs collision issue plagued by pretty much any other combat system. Now granted, this does an excellent job for collision with most world geometry but it's not 100%. Product doesn't use Unity Events, your animations have to be specifically named how they want you to name things and other things are setup in an unusual way, which is easy to adapt, but out of the box, things work so you'll have to keep an open mind with how everything is put together. It's a solid product, but could be improved in alot of simple little ways. Also.... on import, ignore all the project settings as none of that needs to imported with this product for it to work.

Good day! Unfortunately we have no idea what the adress you sent is - it's not our domain. Please send the info about error on direct e-mail fireballed.studio@gmail.com - we will fix the error asap. Just a reminder, that Unity Package Manager likes to produce errors by itself, independent from any Asset. Try importing BS Melee System into a new, clean project and copy it's folder into the live project folder of your game - in most cases it fixes the errors of Package Manager. Cheers! Marcin Tomala

Pixelithon version 1.6
It works really well and exactly how you expect it would. I was making something similar but decided to go ahead and buy this. Very happy I did. Simple and too the point. An excellent Melee Detection, Shield, and Health system that's easy to build on. HOWEVER, I share the same sentiment on the code structure as a previous reviewer. Things like having DamageType1,DamageType2, etc. could be easily changed into a DamageType array. I've changed the code to the point its a lot more compact and less redundant in places. There are ups and downs to the asset, but it 100% fulfills its purpose and making changes to it are as easy as can be. If you're experienced in coding at all, then you can make this asset work for you. 5 Stars all the way!

Kaivianon version 1.6
For this to work properly, you have to use a 2020 release of unity (or earlier). 2021 breaks the asset.

Hello! I am sorry to hear that you had problems with the asset - it works properly on all versions on our testing computers (including 2021 release). It may be a different issue than version itself - try opening up the asset in clean new project and copy BS Melee System folder to your working project (Unity Package Manager sometimes likes to give problems). If issue persists, please contact us directly and we will try our best to solve it. Cheers! Marcin Tomala Fireballed Studio

Absolutely Wonderful, but the code is...

MrDGouldon version 1.6
The code in this asset pack is probably the least organized and clean code I have ever seen. I spent over an hour just fixing weird things like inconsistent line spacing, random spaces between brackets, and the god-awful nested if statements that are barely even readable. The BS_Marker_Manager script is genuinely the messiest script I have ever seen. Not that anything was broken, but like cmon man, clean up a little. From random methods placed above things like start and update, to the brackets and spaces all over the place and out of line, it's just spaghetti code. Complete disregard for consistency and readability. HOWEVER - It does work very, very well. Even though the code is a genuine mess, the asset pack provides wonderful combat mechanics. I would recommend it to anyone. Would be 5 stars if it didn't make my eyes bleed while reading the code. Ill change it to 5 stars if you clean it up a bit, heck ill even send you the clean versions to use since I spent quite some time just making your code look good.

Didn't Work For My Project
DrewofDonutson version 1.6
Edited - This asset did not work in my project, and it may very well have had conflicts that were specific to my project (I have not tested outside of it, because I have an applicable use to do so). That said, the developer has been very responsive.

That is very strange, as we have tested the system on the newest version of Unity and everything worked just fine with no problems. Anyway, we are indeed sorry that the Asset did not work on your setup - we have recieved your refund request and contacted you back for necessary details about finalizing it. Fireballed Team

Very precise trigger. But Inspector serialization could be cleaner. Hit sounds should also be in a array.

Im not a coder, just a hobbist. After being frustrated with other controller systems because aint nothing out there is a complete package, so unless you typical can code a bit you need to hope someone has intergration to mix assets. This though, is set up, so it just intergrates with everything (i think). Super easy, awsome system, im not even going to bother researching the BM systems, im just going to go buy that right now. Because this asset kicks that much a$$
