Great Starting Point for 2D RPG Projects
EkeUttaron previous version 5.0.0
I’d say the 2D RPG Kit offers solid value for what it gives you. It’s a great starting point for indie devs or hobbyists who want to make a 2D RPG in Unity without having to build every system from scratch. You’ll still need to put in some work to polish and customize things, but overall it’s definitely worth checking out. Just don’t expect a completely plug-and-play solution that does everything for you.

This kit is very broken
Enferno33on previous version 4.5
I jumped the gun and put a positive review immediately after buying this kit, however I have been using this everyday for 12-16 hours a day for 60 days now and I can tell you that it's very broken. You can even see some of the things broken in the tutorial videos, as in the changing of secondary characters keeping the same stats as the previous character and if you swap them enough it will break the game. The UI menu is broken all over the place, during battles you cannot even see the item names or descriptions. If you put more than two item shop NPC's and they both have different number of items for sale, it will break the UI menu. The multi quest activator script is broken, it won't work. If you save and load the saved game, it will give you over 270+ warnings being it is using more than one eventsystem. The agility stat doesn't work as intended, it suppose to pick and choose the one with the highest agility and work its way through each turn during battles, it doesn't. If you pick anything below 1.05f on the leveling autostats being that stats below 20 will never increase. The first 2 lines in skills, quests, chests, events will not work, you have to leave the first few lines blank or it will break the game. The debuffs lower str and def are broken to where they will keep stacking if the enemies keep casting them over and over (they do every battle) to the point your str and def will drop below 0 and break the game. If you cast them on the enemies then it will put their def below 0 and you'll start to heal them rather than deal damage. I can sit here and go through 2 months of bugs , errors, broken code, logic and methods , but just get on his discord channel and see the last 2 months of me reporting this everyday and he hasn't updated it once. He don't even reply or get on anymore , so he's abandoned it. He claims that he's just one person, has a job, etc, but this kit has been on the market for over 5+ years, no way you never had time during that period to fix this. This kit is definitely not worth $10, let alone $40. If you do buy it, be very prepared to have to fix a ton of code, UI menus, and every script you open with very little to no help.

It’s important to give some context to this review for those who may have read it. Every issue mentioned in that review has now been addressed and fixed in Version 5.0.0, which is currently available. This update resolves all of the bugs listed, including those involving UI behavior, battle mechanics, debuff stacking, shop systems, event activators, and more. Many of these fixes were made directly in response to reports from the reviewer, and I genuinely appreciated those contributions during development. However, it's unfortunate that the reviewer decided to leave this feedback just before the update was ready. Even after I had communicated in the Discord server that I was actively working on it and simply needed more time to prepare a stable release. While I completely understand frustration with bugs, this situation feels particularly unfair because I was already in the process of resolving their issues. It’s also important to correct the claim that they received "very little to no help." In truth, I personally responded to their questions in private messages, helped debug specific bugs together with them, and even sent them early fixes before releasing the public update. One example is the character stat bug seen in a tutorial video. This was something I hadn’t previously noticed, and thanks to their message, I was able to fix it and deliver a working solution directly to them. Additionally, it's worth mentioning that one of the first things this person suggested in private was to shift my focus to a different project I'm currently working on that they saw as very promising for their needs. Given that context, it’s disappointing to see them now publicly declare the kit "worthless." That statement completely overlooks the time, effort, and personal support I’ve put in, not just for this user, but for everyone using the kit. Constructive criticism is always welcome, and so is honest feedback, but misrepresenting the level of support and the state of the project helps no one. If you're reading this and considering the 2D RPG Kit, I encourage you to check the latest update, visit the changelog, try the updated demo, and join our active Discord community. This kit is still growing, improving, and supported and I’m thankful to everyone who continues to be part of that journey.

Very nice kit with nice support!

LaPruneon previous version 4.1
The kit works like a charm, it's a big time saver as I did not want to program the structure but focus instead on building my own thing on top of it. Everything I need is right here, it's simple to use and well documented, I would recommend to anyone wanting to make a 2D RPG with Unity.

Massive time-saver!
werterlemmingon previous version 4.1
I recently bought this Kit during a sale, and I'm blown away by its capabilities. Within just an hour, I mastered what took me days to attempt in RPG Maker Unite, especially with the lighting features. The setup was straightforward and took mere minutes to achieve good looking results. While I may still tinker with RPG Maker Unite, the 2D RPG Kit has significantly raised the bar for me. For anyone familiar with Unity looking to enhance their RPG projects, this kit is a must-have as it is such a massive time-saver. Highly recommended!

I've been struggling to learn making games in Unity, and this kit really helped me to understand the basics. The creator has been really helpful answering my question on the Discord channel.

Dialogs could have better documentation
zslevion previous version 4.4
1, The dialog system could have also better documentation. (How does the choice A/B thing work?) It seems to me that the dialogs and choices cannot be chained (without some glue script). So it's not a replacement for more expensive dialog systems. Which is ok, but the limitations should be explicitely stated. Dialog class seems to be doing a bit too much (lack of separation of concerns). 2, The level editing also needs more documentation: how does the "tile brush" work? How can I edit the collision maps? (it's standard 2d unity stuff, but still, people might come from 3d experience) I had some issues with demoscenes with 2022.3.16f1 LTS, but they were resolved with 2022.3.50f1 LTS.

Incredible value - ready to build from day 1
3 years ago
rlheyneon previous version 3.5
I have to say, this is probably the best toolkit I've ever purchased on either the Unity or Unreal store. Everything works great out of the box. Don't get me wrong - you'll need to be ready to learn if you want to build off of it and really make a unique game... that is true for ANY toolkit. But this is a GREAT starting point. The dev is responsive, has put out some awesome updates, and has a fairly active Discord. 10/10 - must buy if you are building a 2D pixel art JRPG. :)
