I bought this just for the audio module

Jflyeron version 2019.0.7
Crazy good. Spline audio, transition boxes, nice fades. Want to apply a random pitch to a sound? No problem. I use it for horror games where sound is very important and so far it's my favorite and *fastest-to-implement system.

Great asset, outstanding support!

BlackManateeon version 2019.0.7
SectR really is a fantastic asset, but it's not for the faint of heart! The sheer scope and quantity of options and capabilities would almost certainly bewilder a Unity beginner -- and probably many moderately experienced "Uniteers." ;-) The documentation is fine, IMO, though it may need some updating to provide more detailed explanations of new and/or complex processes and options. I'm running Unity 2023.1 ATM, and SectR has been gratifyingly clear of errors (so far), despite its complexity. My only gripe is that SectR's powerful capabilities can involve some complex setup, with tools that can be difficult to find -- for instance, the manual explains how to build Proxy Meshes without telling you which tool/panel/window it's referring to, i.e.: "Simply expand the Create Proxy Mesh foldout, select the child meshes that you wish to include, and press the Make Proxy Mesh button." Unfortunately, there's no explanation of HOW to get to the "Create Proxy Mesh foldout." Is it something in Unity's menu (Procedural Worlds / SectR / ???), or is it part of one of the tools like the SectR Terrain window? From what I can tell, you must first attach a "SectR Chunk" component to an object in order to see the Proxy Mesh tools. It's still a problem, though, because I have no idea whether I should attach the "SectR Chunk" component to the terrain for that sector, or attach it to the OBJECTs within that sector, or attach it to the top-level SECTR object that's parent to both the terrain and the objects in that sector. That kind of info might be automatic or intuitive for some experienced devs, but I'm afraid that the documentation tends to skip over a lot of those first-steps that many of us need in order to find/attach/manipulate a component. TL;DR version: The documentation is sometimes problematic for Unity devs who aren't already familiar with streaming/tiling processes -- but it still deserves five stars because of its quality, scope, and depth. So many capabilities! -- but users may struggle to implement them.

Thanks for the detailed review! The comments regarding the manual are fair, the manual was initially written by the engineer of Sectr and is overdue for a rework, going more into details that a new user of Sectr would require. We plan to address this in a future update. Very glad to hear that you were able to find the required information regardless and are happy with the capabilities of Sectr!

Why don't objects move into the new scene?
yhr28on previous version 2019.0.6
Why don't objects move into the new scene? Either position mode or other modes. None of the objects moved into the new scene. You can only manually drag into the scene. It's too inconvenient.

Thanks for the review! Please do not use the review system for support requests, but report your issue in the forum on our support platform canopy instead. https://canopy.procedural-worlds.com/ There we can assist you better. Regarding your issue: The drag and drop box in sectr sorts objects into the sector based on the transform position or the bounds of the object - if the object cannot be sorted into a sector, it means it cannot find a matching sector e.g. because the transform position lies outside of any available sector. A common cause for this is when you try to drag and drop a complex object onto the box where the transform position of the parent lies somewhere outside of the available sectors, but a child object within looks like it would sit within the sector. The solution would then be to directly sort the child instead, or fix the object so that the transform parent is not so far away from the child. If you still have trouble with this, please make a post on the canopy forums so we can have a look at the issue.

Very good asset!

I got this asset in 2019. I use SECTR Vis and SECTR Audio and I can say that those have helped me a lot with my project! I think documentation is good enough and with the demo scenes I got going in no time. I've now used SECTR Audio a few days with my game project and I'm already impressed how easy it is to manage audio and get things done. At first it seemed that audio control options were very basic but I soon noticed that they are very powerful! I like how the inspector is set up. It's very clean and it's easy to know/remember where to find what I need. I wish I had started using SECTR Audio earlier! There are also some Playmaker actions for Audio, Streaming and Vis. I'm using SECTR Vis dynamic occlusion culling with Dungen 2.15.1. It was very easy to get occlusion culling working and fps has improved a lot. I'm using Unity 2020.2.3f1 and I've not had any problems with SECTR. All in all, I'm very happy and I've got no regrets getting this asset and I look forward to seeing what features they are going to add to the next update.

Good tool, bad documentation

As someone already pointed out this is a great asset ruined by the worst documentation you'll ever find.

Hi, thanks for the review! I think the statement "worst documentation ever" is a bit rough, SECTR comes with 6 different documentation PDFs: 4 quickstart guides for quickly getting into the core features (5-8 pages each) 1 complete documentation (57 pages) 1 API reference (56 pages) While you can always argue that some parts might need additional information etc. I think it does not deserve "the worst documentation you will ever find." If you are stuck with a specific aspect of SECTR please sign up over at Canopy for product support, we should be able to help you with your questions there: https://canopy.procedural-worlds.com/

Great asset, but needs better documentation

drsalvationon previous version 2019.0.3
Streaming is not an easy thing to do, and this asset will definitely not help you as much if you're still learning about loading/unloading stuff. Truth is, there's no way to make complex stuff like this as easy as a one-click tool. This asset definitely gets as close as it gets and it will cut out most of your time and effort. My biggest issue with this is that the documentation doesn't seem to be up to date, but even if it is, there's not a lot of content to learn from. The main website takes you to youtube videos, and there are only 2 videos for each component, the overview video which only tells you what the component is used for, and a quickstart video, which helps you set things up. The issue is that there are many other tools/options that go unexplained, and I can't seem to find any documentation/tutorials for said tools (For example, "Loading Door" in Sectr/Stream, it looks useful, but I've no idea what its used for or how to use it). The "Show SECTR tutorials" option loads a broken website (404), and it seems that the only viable way to get support is via Discord, nothing wrong with that, but I definitely think there should be more in-depth documentation/tutorials on the main websites. The reason I'm bringing this up is because I'm making a partially linear game, but I still have my scene divided by sectors, and using the quickstart from SECTR Stream, I still get large hiccups when loading the adjacent sectors, even tho the sectrs are fairly small. It seems to me that it's loading them synchronously (at this point, it's quicker for me to load the scene entirely and just enable/disable sections). That said, it is a powerful tool, especially when it comes to delegating scenes if you have teams working on a project (I don't tho, but it's still nice to separate scenes to smaller chunks and stitch them back together) It makes it easier to work with, and it's designed to let you work on your scene as you want, and then apply sectr elements to it (unlike other streaming assets where you NEED to design your scenes around them) TL;DR My biggest issue is the documentation, otherwise, it's a great asset to have, and it adapts to your working environment instead of having you adapt to it.

It's a good optimization tool.

twocometon previous version 2019.0.3
You can easily disassemble the map you have created. However, if you want to create a Sectr-applied map from scratch, we recommend purchasing Gaia Pro. gaia pro was created with tiles from the beginning and supported the loading function. Sectr can be used when you want to optimize by dividing the already completed map.

Thanks for your review :) Yep, if you purchase Gaia Pro, streaming and a whole bunch of other optimizations are already built in, and in general you would only need Sectr if you want finer grained control over how the streaming is performed.

Great asset but no support for Mesh Terrain for Mobile.

This is an amazing asset but sadly not supporting Mesh Terrains makes it extremely painful to work with for Mobile games. Please add support for Mesh Terrains. Cheers.

Thanks for your review. We know of customers that use mesh terrain with Sectr with no problems, however it is not an automated thing, as mesh terrain is game specific.

doesn't support Mesh Terrain

MstislavPavlovon previous version 2019.0.3
In my project i'm using Polaris Terrain System. It's system generate Mesh Terrain. SECTR seemed to be the most advanced world streaming system. Therefore, I bought this system without hesitation. In practice, it turned out that SECTR does not support mesh terrain :| This is pretty standard functionality that I would expect to see here. I ended up taking the time to write my own mesh terrain support. Also in the process, it was discovered that VIS was not working well. In my case, I had many sectors and during its work VIS goes through all existing sectors, instead of taking only those that are loaded through the region component. Of course I can fix that too, but this asset was supposed to save my time. Therefore, if you work with mesh terrain and are not ready to modify SECTR, do not buy this asset. [Reply to author] On the discord, I tried to get support on this issue. And so far I have not received any suggestions for solving this problem. If I'm wrong, show a working example of a mesh terrain cut into several hundred chunks and working with the region loader and VIS.

Thanks for your review. Many people use Sectr quite successfully, and we do not in general test our assets against others unless there is a specific reason to do so. Sounds like your terrain solution does something unusual.

Genuinely amazing tool

Tristan-Mooreon previous version 2019.0.3
I honestly can't believe how easy this tool is to work with. We initially integrated it for use in a more standard project and it worked great, but then we tried incorporating it into a project where we procedurally generate level chunks and were amazed by how much it streamlined that process as well. Having full source code gives us the ability to make small tweaks if needed, and proxy meshes/Proxy Mesh Tool have been shockingly effective, even for combining meshes that included Amplify Impostors. Only complaints are that I'd like to see more options for types of proxies (prefab, streamed level), options for toggling the display of proxies on and off when scenes are no longer visible, and to use more protected/virtual keywords to allow for extending existing classes without touching source code (so grabbing updates is easier). Streaming is a must for most current AAA or high-end indie production, and this tool offers so much that it's hard to beat. We scrapped our own solutions in favor of it, and will likely use it as a base even if we need to change underlying functionality. Great stuff.
