Unsupported but great!

MoonSharp hasn't been in active development since 2016, but it still works great in my projects. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to add modding/scripting support to their game or just needs interoperability with Lua.

This is a great solution, quite simple to set up and use. However, like a previous reviewer, I found that WebGL builds (I'm currently using 2019.4) crash unless you replace the the file /Assets/Plugins/MoonSharp/Interpreter/Loaders/UnityAssetsScriptLoader.cs with that found here: https://github.com/moonsharp-devs/moonsharp/blob/21016c0b3941e267375908e545fdf9e269ea5e8c/src/MoonSharp.Interpreter/Loaders/UnityAssetsScriptLoader.cs

Doesn't work on WebGL

Simplest example taken from documentation (factorial of a number) doesn't run on WebGL. (Version 2018.4.12f1). Crashes with out of bounds access error Edit: Managed to fix it. Pull request from year 2016 https://github.com/moonsharp-devs/moonsharp/pull/146 Development looks dead since it was never merged

Fantastically well designed Lua plugin. I love Lua - it's simply the best language for runtime scripting and configuration. This plugin allows you to script in Lua, with minimal and straightforward C# wrapper code. The plugin has not been updated in years (as of September 2019). As far as I can tell, it works fine on all Unity 2019 versions (currently at 2019.2.3).

Amazing asset and great documentation

This was free when I got it but I would have paid for it. It is fast and easy to use, and is implemented entirely in C# (so it is portable to most (all?) platforms that Unity supports.

Lets me load Lua

All I want to do is continue defining my data files with Lua (since JSON doesn’t have comments and XML is not human writeable). And MoonSharp seems to work fine. The inability to have .lua extensions is a pain, but that seems to be Unity’s fault. P.S. The “rate everything ASAP” culture means I have to review before I fully got to try this out. But I don’t expect to have to revise my overall opinion.

One of the most subtly useful plugins I've ever used, if not the most useful

I was amazed to find that not only was there an amazingly intuitive C#/Lua plugin out there for anyone to use, but that it had also been tweaked with special regard to Unity. What also surprised me is how easy it was to set up. Once I started understanding the Lua language itself a bit better, applying anything I learned and needed wasn't constrained by my figuring out how I might go about my ideas using this plugin. If that isn't pure plug-and-play I don't know what is. I wish there was some glaring method for me to throw money at the developer(s) for their effort.

Me: What do i owe you? Xanathar: Nothing. Itse for free! Me: What? For free?! Robbie rotton jokes aside, this is a great asset! Easily worth $10. Thank you for providing this asset for free! Also, the tutorial on moonsharp.org is really great! I will definetily use Moonsharp for AddOns and a developer console in my game! I am just astonished about this addon and it being available for free.

Despite not having been updated in a long time MoonSharp still works fine with current Unity versions (2018.3.4f1) The documentation on the website is also very detailed and well-written and includes special notes for working in Unity. It enables fast and easy integration of Lua scripts (including more advanced scenarios, such as creating proxies for existing C# classes)

In very little time I have full scripting support working within my RPG game. Works fine (so far) with 2018.2 Just wanted to say this is still working very well in 2019.2.0b10.. However I've not been able to get debugging working in VS or VSC
