I wanted to incorporate rhythm timing based combat in my game, but couldn't really find anything effective on the internet. I saw this one in the asset store and from the looks of the tutorial video it looked pretty good.
I decided to try it myself, but I soon found out that if you include your own track, it doesn't work as well as I would've wanted, in the sense that it would often go off multiple times for one beat. I also realized a bit too late that this asset is pretty old and in need of an update.
It's a good tool if you want a specific beat, but at the moment, it doesn't really work as precise, which is what I needed for a precise rhythm based combat system.

The detection can be used for some experiments but not real beat detection dependent game. I do not like to give reviews with less than 3 stars and here it is only because of price. If this asset cost me e.g. 5€ instead of 26€ I would not write negative review.

works but could be better

The asset is easy to handle, docs are good, code is commented (could need more commentary, though).
But the detection, just as BrunoCiccone has written, is not as good as I would like.
There are parameters in the script that one could easily turn public and try around with to see if the result can be improved.
I have not tried that yet. Would be mindless trial error anyway because I have no idea how these affect detection and how they relate to each other.
I have tested it with several audios and commercial songs to see how nice it can visualize and I notice that in most of the songs the beat detection for example is not consistent.
Even in electronic music dominated by the bass it misses the bass drum astonishingly often.
When triggering animation with the events (in my test case simple particle FX) this results in an appearance of slight randomness-- of course all events follow the music pattern, but when you concentrate on the separate events they all miss from time to time---you would expect the bass drum to light up consistently but sometimes for passages in the music it does not even light up, although the drum is clearly present in the audio.
I would not give it one star like BunoCiccone has, because that is clearly reserved for assets that do not work or are completely unprofessional, which is absolutely not the case. But I was unsure if to give 3 or 4 stars-- until I tried out another audio asset from another author that worked but was a disappointing mess inside and that reminded me that good docs and a transparent architecture are worth a lot, and both are good here.
You can get to work with this asset in a very short time.
But it could need some improvement, maybe if possible the author could add different parameter presets with higher accuracy?

Only works with the audio provided in the demos

I'm still testing, but so far it seems like it only works well with the sample audio provided in the example which has clear and distinct bass, kick, hi-hat, and snare sounds.
The script doesn't seem to accurately detect beats on other music tracks I've tried with strong kick beats.
There's also no public parameters to modify or fine-tune.

This is one of the best assets I've bought before. It does exactly what it says, is easy to customize, and better yet, has the most amazing customer service I've come across in my life! The publisher does everything possible to make this asset work for you, is fast, responsive, and very helpful. You can't ask for a better producer! :D
Thanks for everything you do, man!

Great Audio Tool

I love the simple events it has. Very straightforward use.
I really wish it had the option to Analyze the music before it plays (in editor or at runtime) though and get a list of event times that I could use. It would make it so I could have hints to a upcoming event for my game that I could really use.

Pros:
- Simple to use.
- Clean, understandable code.
- Stable / works reliably.
Cons:
- Overpriced.
- Algorithm could use some more work (good beat detection is notoriously tricky).
Overall:
- Does what it says, would purchase again.
- Could do with a tweakable prefab + some beat prediction capability.
Thank you!
