Graphics Memory Management: By consequently clearing chunks that are too far away to be rendered, Tasty Grass Shader will now work better out-of-the-box with larger worlds. This will also improve stability on systems with less graphics memory.
CPU Performance Improvement: Reworked pre-rendering code to do less redundant work. We saw improvements up to ~3x on the CPU side.
UI Statistics: The statistics UI now includes the total graphics memory usage, total chunks, and total grass blades.

Bugfixes:

Reduced graphics memory usage by fixing a bug, that would not free buffers if no grass was spawned.
Fixed issues in the internal update checker, leading to false-error messages due to connection problems.

2.4.0:

Improvements:

Added support for LODs on large meshes via a new built-in chunking routine. This feature has been a frequent user request, and we're happy to deliver a solution to tackle even larger meshes in TGS smoothly.
Increased baking speed with many instances at once by removing bottlenecks in the baking code. Baking many chunks at once, such as when loading a scene, should feel significantly snappier. Prior to this change, each grass instance would read back from the GPU twice per baking, which is a very expensive operation. If many chunks were to be baked at once, this would create a significant bottleneck, with easily up to 700 reads per frame. The rework bundles these reads, so only two reads in total per frame and per camera are executed.
The UV coordinate of the grass blade can now be easily obtained in an custom shader via the new TgsGetGrassUv node (Shader Graph and Amplify).

Changed:

The chunk size for all TGS matters is now globally controlled in the global settings instead of per object.
Changed the default chunk size to 64 meters. We found that the default chunk size of 32 meters easily overwhelms the CPU due to the general overhead of C#. This would outweigh the gained GPU performance. By fixing the chunk size to 64 meters, we ensure that TGS runs smoothly in common scenarios.

2.3.0:

Improvements:

Added full support for super-duper fine density textures, independent of topology. This also resolves issues where grass couldn't be painted properly on certain terrain configurations.
Added full prefab support for Terrains and painted density-textures. A new GUI allows saving these textures as Unity Assets, which enables them to be shared across instances.
Added rescaling system for hand-painted density textures.
Flower like objects now have a fixed leave count. This resolves issues with missing flowers on certain terrain configuration.

Changes

The time budget system is now disabled in Editor-Mode. This allows for as-soon-as-possible feedback when working with Tasty Grass, but may introduce small freezes in the editor.
The math for calculation of the grass amount has been slightly changed to mitigate issues with inconsistent density across different geometric topology.

Added global shadow casting switch. This can be used to reduce GPU load on lower-end platforms.
Added an LOD-Cutoff option. This can be used to reduce CPU load on lower-end platforms.
Added an Frame-Time budget system. This allows the control of milliseconds spend per frame for Tasty Grass baking process. This will minimalize shuttering introduced by Tasty Grass.

This generally affects the density, so all presets have their base density reduced by 87.5% to match the original look in the example scene.
