New Features

Adding a mesh validator and integrated cleaning. Common mesh errors that might impact fracturing can be viewed in the editor. The fracturing engine will attempt to fix these errors automatically, if they exist.

The types of detected errors that can be (mostly) recovered:

Vertices that are extremely close, but not quite overlapping
Degenerate triangles. These can be produced from valid FBX files as Unity converts NGons to tris.
Open edges. These are edges that only have 1 triangle and cause the mesh to no longer be water-tight.

The types of detected errors that cannot be fixed automatically:

Triangle fans. These are edges that are shared by 3 or more triangles.

Fixes

Fixing cases where separated geometry within a mesh could produce errors. This was especially the case of the two pieces of geometry were flush with each other.
Fixing rare issue of invalid geometry being created with very specific cuts on a complex mesh.
Fix pre-factured geometry sharing the same output prefab when duplicated. Note: the case of Right Click -> Duplicate on the object hierarchy could not be covered due to Unity limitations.
The generated FractureMeshes folder will now be deleted if the last prefab is removed from the folder.
Some error messages will be displayed when fracturing fails.

Breaking Changes

Checking for mesh validity will happen when the fracture geometry is shown in the Unity inspector (by clicking on the game object). This will cause extra data to be saved and the scene be marked dirty. The scene will only be marked dirty once until the mesh changes. It is recommended you click on each object with a fracture geometry script once after updating.

Adding ability to separate disjoint meshes. Sometimes slicing can result in unconnected chunks of a mesh bundled together as one mesh. Checking the "Separate Disjoint Pieces" will separate each of these chunks into a separate game object. More processing power is required to do this, even if nothing needs separation, so the option is only enabled by default for PreFracturedGeometry components.

New Features

New fracturing engine!

Faster and produces better results than before. Fractured pieces have dramatically less triangles.
Less chance of invoking the GC. There are still some unavoidable allocations that can only be removed by going fully native.
Internally, all fractures are now threaded if the platform supports it. You can still wait on the fracture to complete synchronously.
Temporary fracturing data is now cached. Call FractureEngine.ClearCachedFractureData() at runtime to free this cached data. Note: this may cause a large stall during the next GC collection and is recommended to be called during scene load.

Adding slicing!

Much requested feature to allow you to define your own slicing planes. Can be used to chop objects in half using a sword, for example.
Slice planes can be added to fracture geometry in the editor. Slicing is fully supported via pre-fractured geometry.
The old way of fracturing still exists and uses the name "Shatter".

Reworked playground demo scene with more information about how the scene is set up in addition to a slicing example.
Prefabs are now always created when pre-fracturing. The location is also automatically decided to be the location of the original fracturing game object.

Delegates can now be attached as callbacks to the AsyncFractureResult object returned from calling Fracture(). You do not need to specify a game object.

Breaking Changes

Unity 2018 no longer includes the demo project. Recent updates to the scene are not compatible with such an old version of Unity. Please download DinoFracture for Unity 2109 or later to grab the demo project.

Added option to optimize material usage in the FractureGeometry component. If set, an existing material will be re-used for generated triangles if it matches the specified "Inside Material". This is opposed to always adding a new sub-mesh / material. By default this will be set on.

* If you rely on looking at the last material for a list of generated "inside" triangles, you'll want to turn this option off.

Adding button on the pre fractured geometry component to delete the generated geometry. This works with multiple selected objects.
