PLEASE DELETE THE CURRENT VERSION OF MICROSPLAT BEFORE INSTALLING

- MicroSplat now delivered as a Package instead of as an asset. This means that it can be found in your Packages folder.

- Examples are no longer imported as part of the module. Instead, you can install them by selecting the module in the Package Manager and unpacking the sample you want to try.

- MicroSplat now uses assembly definition files. If your code uses assembly definitions, you will have to create appropriate references to MicroSplat. Note that all modules use assembly references to inject themselves into the main MicroSplat assembly definitions, so you do not have to account for module usage.

- Note that due to the new assembly definition files, some 3rd party assets will need to be updated to work with MicroSplat again. If you are using lots of third party integrations, you may want to wait to update until they have been updated as well.

- The minimum Unity version for new MicroSplat development is now 2019.4, previous versions are still available for 2017+.

- The Ultimate Bundle can now be downloaded as a single download instead of as separate modules!

MicroSplat 3.71

- Added Per Texture property to create tint outlines around texture borders, very useful for non-photorealistic looks. Border thickness is controlled by the interpolation contrast.

- Added Low Poly option that uses actual geometry instead of flattening normal maps.

MicroSplat 3.7

The entire system has been rewritten to run off the Better Shaders framework. This is a pretty massive change that fixes many slight differences and bugs between the various render pipelines, making it much easier to fix issues across all the pipelines at once.

Note that Unity's Package Manager is completely broken in most versions of Unity, will show that it has the latest version, but instead install older versions. To fix this, please delete the asset store cache before downloading any assets, otherwise you will most likely not get the latest version.

MicroSplat 3.6

**MANUAL UPDATE STEPS MAY BE REQUIRED**

If you are using terrain blending, dynamic streams/lava, Mesh Terrains, or per-pixel normal, you will need to update the terrain descriptor by clicking Update on the MicroSplatTerrain component next to the terrain descriptor.

- HDRP now supports tessellation

- HDRP now supports Vertex Mesh Workflows

- HDRP now supports Digger Integration

- Option to use Surface Gradient framework for normals instead of traditional normal blending

- The terrain descriptor is no more, all hail the terrain descriptor. The terrain descriptor is now a world space normal map, reducing its memory use in half from the previous format. It also now doubles as the per-pixel normal map, saving you more memory if you were using it as well. The height map is now read directly from the terrain, as it is available in both instanced and non-instanced modes.

- Per Pixel normal maps are now stored in the same format Unity uses, so that the code which samples them does not care if they come from Instancing or are manually generated. Unfortunately there is an issue in Unity in that grabbing the instanced normal map and trying to use it doesn't work until the second frame, if this becomes possible to fix, a terrain descriptor won't be necessary when instancing is enabled.

- Terrain Blending can now work over Mesh Workflow meshes which use the Combined or Splat modes

- Mesh Terrains now create a per-pixel normal map texture automatically when Draw Instanced is enabled on the terrain, to better match the original terrain.

- Mesh Terrains also serialize out a special height map texture when dynamic lava or streams is used on them.

- Vertex Painted meshes can use tessellation in URP and HDRP

- Biome and Tint masks are no longer autogenerated by the Terrain Painting system when they are not found on the component. This would create issues when a user assigned a tint map to the material (but not the component) and the terrain painting system would suddenly create a new tint map for them and assign it as an override. Now you have to press a button to create one.

- Custom texture importer for HDR texture types, can be used to serialize in/out native textures without going through Unity's broken EXR pipeline (which gamma corrects linear textures)

- Mesh Terrains now set proper shader types when using the generate separate shader option

- URP/HDRP properly detected again when converting terrains

- Fix to SRP batcher compatibility

- Fix to normals in HDRP when using triplanar texturing

- Trax Buffers can now be half precision, which takes half the memory and often fine for most uses.

- Fix to Mesh painter when running in URP/HDRP which would prevent it painting certain textures over other textures, or cause it to paint a mix of textures when you are clearly painting one.

- URP template v2f structure trimmed, allowing more textures in Vertex/Digger workflows

- Snow Mask map is now available. Painting a value of 0 in the R channel will prevent snow from ever accumulating in that location. Painting a value of 1 in the G channel will make snow always appear in an area regardless of accumulation. You can paint these directly in the editor with the new MicroSplat/Terrain Paint Tool

- Origin Shifting option is available for large world support. Set via a global shader matrix.

- Per Texture Interpolation contrast now blends correctly. There was a bug in the blending that made a line between the textures, especially noticeable in specular values.

- When using auto-setup in pipelines that support a mask map, channels for smoothness/occlusion/height are now automatically set.

- When using DrawInstance, manually recompute tangent space viewDir for parallax.

- Optimizations to Trax memory use when using only repair without delays or stops

- Textures set to shrink in the build are now uncompressed when compiling texture arrays, increasing quality of the resulting arrays.
